Why You Need to Join the Odyssey Team
The Odyssey Online

It's not everyday that you can have the freedom to create your own stories and generate a voice of your own through your writing. That's why if you've ever thought about either getting practice writing, want to build up your portfolio, or simply just love writing, should join Odyssey! It's an easy way to learn new skills and test yourself by writing for Odyssey online.

Odyssey is full of many different wonderful opportunities. You can write a solo story, work with another writer on your team, create a video to bring your ideas to life with visual storytelling, or whatever else you can think of! There are also incentives that you can get for writing articles; that's right you can get paid for your work! How awesome is that?

The application process is super simple, all you need to do is head to Odyssey's website and hit "request to join" and you will need to enter your full name, phone number, email, and the college you go to, or what is referred to as your "community." There are tons of communities out there and even if there is not, you can create your own community for your school! You be part of a community in three different ways. There is an Editor in Chief, Contributing Editor(s), and Content Creators. Depending on how new the community is or just the time you are joining, you can become the Editor in Chief. The Editor in Chief is in charge of hiring new creators for the team as well as making sure the creators are keeping up with their stories and finally editing the articles and giving feedback where it is needed. A Contributing Editor is right below the EIC and they help out with editing the articles that the EIC does not get to. Even though these two positions are higher up, they still require content to be created by either of these people. Lastly we have the lovely Content Creators. They are what make the team a success or failure. The dedication the creators put into their work is what makes a community thrive. Without them, there would be no voices to listen to.

From my own personal perspective I think the Odyssey is a blessing. I started just this past summer and the UW Oshkosh branch was just starting out. Being the EIC I get to watch the team grow and it's an amazing feeling. I love seeing all the creators coming up with new and innovative stories. It also gives me tons of practice writing and working with a deadline.

So what are you waiting for? Head over to the Odyssey's website and join your community today! We're excited to have you!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
