In today’s society almost everyone owns a cell phone so asking you if you guys have one is a bit of a dumb question. Most people rely on their phones for everything (myself included). Most of us spend so much of our day with our eyes glued to the screen that we just need someone to confiscate it from us so we can stop ruining ourselves and all those around us.
These are a few things that people do with their phones which are big reasons why they should not be allowed to own a cell phone.
Camera Shutter Sounds
Some may disagree with me as far as this one. We all love taking pictures of where we go, what we do, who we hang out with, even what we eat but there’s nothing worse than hearing that shuttering noise go off every few minutes. It goes hand in hand with that awkward moment when you go to Snapchat or Instagram something and the camera sounds causing people to look at you like something is wrong with you or like you’re crazy. With the shuttering sounds, all hopes of being discreet are dashed in seconds and also it’s just courtesy to not have it sound for the sake of all those around you.
Lack of Interaction with Those Physically Around You
Technology in general has its advantages and disadvantages as so many people and research papers will tell. Let’s be honest here, it’s turning our generation into a bunch of introverts who would rather talk at a screen than to people around them. When we were younger before we had cell phones, the highlight of our days used to be going outside and playing or being with our families now we are more concerned with what’s going on within the world of social media. Now even when we surround ourselves with people in a public setting we can look around and see that nine times out of 10 people are on their phones the majority of the time if not all of the time. This happens way too often now and it’s ridiculous. It’s time to put down the phone, look up and talk to someone whether it’s someone you don’t know or a friend. Just do it!
Public Notifications
We get that people are in constant communication with each other all the time. No big deal right? Right, it isn’t a big deal until you’re in a public setting and you make everyone listen to your ringtone or notifications go off every few seconds just because your group message is lit or you’re talking to your significant other. We are begging here, if you’re out and about just turn it to vibrate so you won’t get stared down and you won’t aggravate people. If you’re an iPhone user, flip the switch on the side of your phone, it’s not that difficult. It will save everyone some mental sanity to not have to hear constant beeping all the time. We get your conversations may be important but they aren’t to everyone else. I assure you those around you don’t care but they will have something to say if you subject them to having to hear it.
Face-Timing in Public
For all you Apple fans and iPhone users, this one’s for you. We agree that FaceTime is a great and fabulous thing that can’t be found on android sadly, but that does not give you a reason to hold your phone at an arms length and talk to whomever you’re speaking with in public. To be candid, you look dumb, people will stare and no one cares or wants to see or hear your whole conversation. This rates right up there with taking a selfie in the middle of a crowded area. It’s dumb, don’t do it.
And finally,
One Word Responses
If you have full on conversations with people and think it’s ideal to use one word answers such as “k”, “ya”, “no”, and “lol” please find a door and leave or throw away your phone, it’s ridiculous, useless and we can assure you people can’t stand it. I am guilty of such responses so I don’t wish to come across hypocritical but myself included, it’s horrible and people are appalled. Stop texting, and formally apologize to all those you have conversed with over text for wasting their time. One word replies are the fastest way to lose friends, family, fans, or anyone that you once thought was worth your time. If a one-word response was actually necessary, then there better be a good reason or a funny picture to follow up. If that’s the best you could have come up with then you should have just left the conversation there until you could come up with something reasonable, we assure you that there is your best bet.
Something to think about: Next time you decide to allow your cellular device to sound repetitively in public or reply to a text with a ridiculous “k” or “lol” just keep in mind people will probably roll their eyes and think you’ve lost your sanity. In the future, if these things were to happen, take it in the words of Drake because we’re not going to be making your hotline bling anytime soon.
