Why You Can't Wait To Get Back To Your College Friends

Why You Can't Wait To Get Back To Your College Friends
Kayla Dalton

Let's be honest: our favorite part of the semester is getting to go home for winter break. Home-cooked meals, family time, sleeping in your own bed and general holiday cheer all ease our minds after slaving away over our finals. You'd think after spending months, or even years, with the same people every day you'd be as sick of them as you were of your parents senior year of high school. But after the new year begins, so does the countdown to see your college friends again.

One reason why we miss our collegiate comrades so very dearly is, simply put by the characters of High School Musical, because...

They get it. If you lay in bed all weekend binge watching your favorite show on Netflix and just get up to let the pizza guy in, or skip your 7:30 class again because you were up late "studying", they won't judge. Unlike high school, it's not some huge competition of you against everyone else. We're adults now. We still live our lives as immaturely as possible, but no one is around to make you feel bad for it because we're all in the same boat.

We've all been in each other's shoes at one point or another and so our college friends are our biggest support system. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles--they're too far away from their college experience to really offer any solid pick-me-ups. From the all-nighters you pull studying for tests, to getting your roomie's butt moving so she is NOT late for class again, our college friends are the only ones who know exactly what you need because it's what they need too.

And I mean exactly what you need.

After some nice, quality love from the fam, it's great to be reunited with the people that very literally get you through school. If it wasn't for them, you wouldn't be where you are today. These are the kinds of friends that go from helping you ace that test to helping you look your hottest for that cute guy at the party this Friday in less than two seconds. Instead of laughing at you and thinking you're crazy for using a paper towel as a coffee filter when you run out, they'll groggily shuffle in and say, "Make me some too".

College is probably the weirdest transition of our lives--we try so hard to act grown up, but we don't quite have the hang of it yet. We love our families and our friends from home, but you sure couldn't get me back to campus fast enough. Bring it on Spring Semester!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
