Why I Write
The Sweet Setup

Writing an article every week on Odyssey has been such a privilege and honor. I get to write about whatever I want without restriction. Whether you want to express your opinion about politics or Jesus, there is a blank page for everyone to begin writing on. This is why I write.

I write because I can.

I have been taught and have an opportunity to write my opinions for everyone to see - not everyone has this. Many are bound by government regulation to keep their views and thoughts to themselves, or they will have brutal consequences. I write because I can.

I write because it helps me express my emotions.

Everyone knows me to be very shy and introverted. I don't like opening up to people, unless I can trust you with every word and have been around you long enough to be vulnerable. For the longest time, I had to write down what I wanted to say to someone or about something because I couldn't get it out by speaking. But, I could write my feelings out. Writing has helped me communicate in relationships with other people so much. I write because it helps me express my emotions.

I write because I like being able to relate to others.

I love it when I read an article that touches my heart because I'm going through the same thing. It makes me feel like I'm not the only one going through this, or I'm not the only one who feels this way - it gives a sense of belonging. I especially love when I'm the one who can write something that makes someone else feel like they belong. I write because I like being able to relate to others.

I write because my entries are visible thoughts.

Seeing what you write is a great replication of what you're thinking. Even if you didn't know that you felt that way, it becomes easier to gather your thoughts and think clearly when they're in front of you. I write because my entries are visible thoughts.

I write because it allows me to be as creative as I want.

Not just articles, but novels, poems, lyrics, or quotes, you can put your words into any format you want. However you express yourself in words, you can be as creative as you want. Your imagination is the only thing that limits you. I write because it allows me to be as creative as I want.

I write because God has given me the ability.

If I am remembered for anything, I want it to be for loving and giving Jesus the glory He deserves. He gives me the ability to read, write, learn, and breathe. I would be nothing without His provision over my life. I don't write just because I like to, I write because I have a passion to. That passion comes from the Creator of words, music, art, and everything in the universe. I want to make Him known. I write because God has given me the ability.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
