Working while also being a student is a must, for most of the population. Whether you are working to save money to buy books for next semester, pay tuition, pay bills, buy food or just to save up for after college; it can be a bit draining. It isn't easy balancing; school, a social life, (love life), family time, and if you are lucky sufficient amount of sleep. While being a young adult is hard as is adding into the mix, a work schedule is just the cherry on top of the wonderful thing we call life.
This is not a rant article about me complaining about school and work, because I love that I am able to continue my education and I love my job, rather this article should be viewed as addressing the subject of being a student worker.
There are two points of view when it comes to being a student that works, either great for you that you can do both or isn't that hurting your education and work effort. Everyone has their individual remarks about this subject.
Depending on the person, is how well they can balance going to school and work, there is no definite answer if it's a good or bad thing to do both. I've heard and seen the responses to my answer of "yes I work and am a college student," some positive comments others not so much.
For those that do work and are students, don't shame those that don't, maybe they haven't found a job yet, their classes could be too demanding, they receive money elsewhere, or maybe they just don't want to work yet. Instead of viewing those that don't have a job right now, if they are looking for one help them find one, if they don't want one don't look down on them for it. Kudos to you for being able to do both. Everyone is different, it doesn't make them lazy or unreliable you don't know what's going on in their life. If you do work it's a true balancing act of getting school work done and have enough time to be you.
Also, it isn't a bad thing, if you don't work because you don't need to; it doesn't make you a bum or dependent on others. It gives you more time to focus on academics and there is no shame in that. If you don't have to work to pay for tuition, food or bills and you are financially stable, don't feel bad for not having a job. Another mention is, don't pity your peers that work or think of yourself as better than them because you don't currently have a job right now. We are going to school to be one step closer to having our dream career, so eventually you will work, cause that's why we are in college. If you are looking for a job as around.
It is very difficult to be successful in every aspect of life, regardless if you work or not. It is up to you and no one else if you chose to work.
