I don't understand a lot of things about men, but I try to since I'm unfortunately somewhat attracted to them. But there's one thing that absolutely drives me up the wall that I can't seem to wrap my brain around why this is a thing.
WHY CAN'T YOU WALK THROUGH A DOOR IF I'M HOLDING IT OPEN FOR YOU??
Look, I know in the grand scheme of things this is an absolutely minuscule problem, but this happens to me all the time and I just don't understand it.
Here's how it usually goes: I'm walking with a group of people and when we get to our destination, I'm in the front. I hold the door open, everyone starts filing through, no problem. But then there's one guy at the end that's like "no, go ahead" and tries to get the door for me.
There are two ways that this plays out. Option one involves doing the weird holding the door tango so I let go and you get the door so I can go in without the door hitting either one of us. It's super awkward and I usually end up tripping just so your man ego can do something chivalrous.
Option two is me arguing with you that since I am already holding the door open, you might as well go in. Words are exchanged, curse words are thrown, and I end up looking like a lunatic.
Fellas, just walk through the damn door.
I appreciate the sentiment, you are a manly man who truly knows that chivalry is not dead. But trust me, walking through one door that a female is holding does not mean you lose your man card. Don't worry, you're still a gentleman. In fact, I'll like and respect you even more if you don't make my life so bloody awkward by insisting you hold the door for me when I am already holding it.
In conclusion: walking through a door held by a woman will not make your penis fall out, nor will it make her think you are less than a man. In fact, she probably won't think about it at all.
You really want to impress me with your manly ways? Compliment my outfit, wow me with your thoughts on intersectional feminism, tell me a joke. Literally do anything that avoids us outside of a restaurant while I attempt to convince you to not have to now hold the door for me.
Make both our lives easier, walk through the door.
