Why Women Love "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."

Boyfriends will never understand but will be forced to watch "SVU" marathons. If he bails, not a problem, some wine and maybe a best friend will do just fine.

I have finally finished watching every episode from the first episode that was aired in 1999 to the latest one of season 17. With the show being dark and violent I wonder why women are obsessed and binge watch for hours, maybe even days. Is it because we want a relationship like Olivia and Elliot? Is it because we want to be a kick a** female like Olivia? Or is it because we believe someone will fight for justice for us women? Whatever it is, females love "SVU." We rely on USA Network to host a marathon and if not, I am sure I can find a channel that has an "SVU" episode airing now.

Each episode starts with, "The dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories. (*DUN DUN*)”. Every time I hear this I whisper “Ahhh yes, just started.” Not only does "Law & Order: SVU" directly challenge myths about sexual assault, but the show makes clear that every woman, even if you are a prostitute, has a right to consent, according to the study.

Why do we love Olivia Benson? She is a bad ass, you don't want to mess with her. She has been through hell and back and is still standing strong and tall. She doesn’t down play her intelligence to appease the male ego.

We love the fact that the show brings on guests, celebrity guest in particular. In the past 17 seasons of the show we have seen dozens and dozens of great guest stars. Some guest made an appearance before they got their big break. Celebrities from Hayden Panettiere, Amanda Seyfried, Bradley Cooper, Ludacris , Bob Saget, even Robin Williams (R.I.P.) and of course John Stamos.

Benson and Stabler, the power couple. Refreshing to see a man and woman working together without sleeping together and still have great chemistry and friendship. Yet as much as any female would love to take Elliot for herself, we always wished that this week on SVU would be the week they got together. The chemistry was just too strong to handle. My heart did break when Olivia cried, wishing Elliot didn't leave. Although he is no longer with the franchise he is a big part of why women love SVU.

Story lines are pulled from real life tragedies. Casey Anthony trial, O.J. Simpson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Anna Nicole Smith and even Trayvon Martin. We get to see how real life stories that we don't always hear about are played out.

If something wakes you up, hello lets not be dumb and walk down an alley at 3 a.m. You learn about dangerous situations to stay away from. It also informs some of being aware of sexual assault and what to look out for. Thank you Dick Wolf for this amazing show that us women binge watch!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
