In all honesty, I hate winter. Being from Buffalo, I experience it almost year round. There are only a few months each year where the sun is out and there isn't snow on the ground, and those are the months I like best. But here are some reasons why I think winter sucks.
1. It's Always Cold
As the saying goes, "Why do I live somewhere where the air hurts my face?"
2. Snow Sucks
Being from Buffalo, it's almost natural to just be able to live and breathe snow. But it just sucks.
3. Dry Skin
Winter is the time of year when everyone's skin is dry, and no one ever seems to have any lotion on them.
4. SO MANY LAYERS
Because it's so cold, you need to wear about four layers of everything in order to stay somewhat warm. And because of all these layers, you can barely move. Just like that kid from A Christmas Story.
5. Driving Conditions
In the snow, people cannot seem to drive. Even if it's just a little icy, people get cocky and assume they know how to drive in bad weather conditions. This normally leads to accidents, which block the thruway, which just causes a lot of issues. You get the picture.
6. Shoveling
Having to get up super early in order to shovel your driveway is the worst. It's when the world is at it's coldest, and you just feel like the world hates you. Can't forget to mention those awful moments when you're shoveling, and snow ends up down your sleeves and in your boots...
7. Wind
Living right on top of a lake, that means wind—and it's cold wind. Like really cold. At one point, it was -26 degrees in Fredonia, and we still had classes.
8. Darkness
Due to the rotation of the Earth's axis and stuff like that, it's always super dark during the winter. So, it's dark when you wake up, and it's dark when you get home.
And I'll admit, even though the winter season really sucks, there are some good things about it:
1. Christmas
Christmas falls in the winter season. And that's one of the things that makes this holiday so beautiful. As the song says, "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas..."
2. Sledding and Ice Skating
Some fun activities that you can do in the snow include sledding, ice skating, building snow men, snow forts and snowball fights.
3. Snow Days
When the weather gets really bad, sometimes school gets cancelled.
4. Being Warm and Cozy
Sometimes during the winter, it's nice to just curl up with some coffee/tea/hot chocolate, your pet, a book and a blanket, and enjoy watching the snow fall.
5. Spring is On the Way!
One of the best parts of winter is knowing that spring will be here soon.
So yeah, sometimes winter may really suck, but just remember that spring is on its way!
