The winters at Marist can be both amazing and excruciating. The campus is absolutely beautiful when it snows, but there are several hidden winter disadvantages to this beautiful campus. Here are the worst things about winters at Marist.
1. The wind tunnels.
The wind tunnels near the library and near the Champ breezeway are brutal in the winter, especially with the snow flying around in your eyes. Best solution: Cover your face with your scarf. Trust me—you do not look weird, and people around you will start copying you.
2. The stairs to the gym are deadly.
How are we supposed to go to the gym if the stairs are covered in snow and ice? This is when the home workout videos come in handy.
3. The walk for upperclassmen to the academic buildings is pure torture.
Especially for sophomores who live in Gartland and juniors and seniors that still live on campus. I am so sorry that you must endure that terrible 15 minute walk of torture.
4. The hallways are a death trap.
It seems like the hallways are always flooding with water from slushy shoes, and it never gets fully cleaned up. Make sure when you're going out in your heels to beware of the dangerous puddles!
And, more importantly, here are the best parts.
1. Beautiful views.
We can't deny it—Marist is an absolutely beautiful campus year round. But it seems like a winter wonderland when it snows, which can make for a great Instagram picture. The frozen river is also the perfect place to take pictures with your friends for your latest cover photo.
2. Marist beach tubing.
The Marist Beach is obviously amazing the last few weeks of school when we are able to lay out and tan with friends. But in the winter, it also makes a great tubing hill. Get your storage bin covers or even your mattress, and get out on the Marist Beach to have some fun.
3. Snow days.
It seems like we are always having snow days at Marist, and none of us are complaining. It is the perfect time to catch up on work or veg out in bed with some Netflix and hot chocolate. Thanks Marist, we appreciate the snow days more than you will ever know.
4. The Marist Christmas tree.
The Marist Christmas tree is the best thing to happen in the winter. We all love to get into the Christmas spirit, and what better way than with the Christmas tree in front of the chapel decked out in red and white lights? The best part about it? You can go under the tree and take some pretty cool pictures.
Marist is the best place to be during the winter. Even though it may be cold and windy, it is stunning every day and is the best place to be with your friends when it snows. Be sure to enjoy it—you only get to be here for four winters!
