Women who wear makeup are always hit with questions and comments like: All that makeup must be a mask for her ugliness. What does she do at water parks? How many makeup wipes do you think she goes through every night? Girls that wear that much makeup are fake. And my favorite one of all time: Why do you wear so much makeup?
The answer is simple. I wear makeup because I want to. I wear makeup because it is fun and lets me express myself. I wear makeup because it allows me to enhance my features that I think are beautiful. I wear makeup because it lets me treat myself. I wear makeup because it makes me feel confident. I wear makeup for myself. I wear makeup because I can.
I asked some girls why they wear makeup. Here are their answers.
Sharlee N: "I wear makeup because it gives me more self confidence, and I enjoy spending some extra time on myself in the morning."
Ashley S: "I wear makeup because it makes me feel better about myself, and without it I feel self-conscious."
Alyssa C: "Makeup is an art form. It helps girls and even guys express themselves in so many ways. It makes every individual unique. I wear makeup to express myself and to feel more self confident."
Mackenzie R: "I wear makeup because it's fun to put on and I always think I look extra good when I wear it."
Lauren A: "I wear makeup because it makes me feel confident; I feel good about myself. I don't really care whether or not people think I need to wear it. It makes me feel confident and powerful."
Let's make this clear: I do not wear makeup because I think I'm ugly. I do not wear makeup to be someone that I am not. I do not wear makeup because I am insecure. And most importantly, I do not wear makeup to impress men.
I don't wake up in the morning and think to myself, "I should wear blue eye shadow because Nick's favorite color is blue," or "Nick likes red so I should wear red lipstick." I'm going to wear gold eye shadow because it compliments my outfit, and I love glitter. I'm going to add some brown eye shadow and turn it into a gold smokey eye because it makes my eyes pop. I'm going to wear mascara because my eye lashes look better darker. I'm going to wear eyeliner because it accentuates my eyes. I'm going to fill in my eyebrows because they look better filled. I'm going to wear concealer to cover up my acne, blemishes, and scars. I'm going to wear foundation to even and smooth out my face. I'm going to wear lipstick to give a pop of color. I'm going to wear a full face of makeup because it looks good and feels good.
I wear makeup because I want to -- and because I can. And who are you to say I can't?
