Why I Wear All Black

I truly believe that there is nothing more difficult in the world than trying to pick out an outfit. It doesn't matter what it's for. Going out with your friends, going to lunch, job interview, blah blah blah. The problem is I'll stand in front of my closet for a solid 15 minutes trying to put together cute outfits. If you're a girl and you're reading this, I know you can relate. So, after about an hour and a half of my friends telling me to hurry up and throwing on and off articles of clothing to get the perfect outfit, I walk out of my room ready to go. "Really? It took you two hours and you're wearing all black?" You see, what they don't understand is that it's not just 'all black.' I didn't just give up on finding an outfit and settle for black, I spent that hour and a half figuring out how to perfectly match my all black ensemble. If you're reading this and thinking to yourself, "There are so many pretty bright colors out there. Why doesn't she wear those?" Well, let me welcome you to the dark side.

It's Classic

A bright yellow blouse may not be acceptable during the winter, but black always is. It's the one color that never goes out of style. It's timeless, classic and breathes elegance. It portrays maturity and poise. That's why people like Angelina Jolie have a black, floor-length dress with a thigh high slit as their go-to..it's timeless and poised just like them.

Gives The Impression Of Togetherness

You would never think a color could have so much to offer. An all black ensemble makes you look chic, confident and like you have your life together. Little do the people staring at you know, that your life is one chaotic mess and that you just spilled coffee all over your pants on the way to work (another plus: it hides things). Wearing all black gives you confidence and a sense of power. It tells people, "I'm here for business, but I also know how to party." It's edgy, classic and serious all at the same time. And to add the cherry on top, black is a slimming color. So there you have it. You can be chic, powerful, confident and looking thin all at the same time. So why wouldn't I want to go buy everything in black?

It's Versatile

Every girl has at least one LBD (little black dress). Why? Because it comes in handy for so many various occasions. Because this fabulous color is so timeless, it's perfect for every event. Dinner party? Check. Work? Check. Funeral? Check. It's the color that pleases all. You can dress it up or down - either way it looks good. Unlike a bright red top or floral gown, black can be worn over and over without being obvious. It's all about how you pair it to make it look different each time. Just like a LBD, an all-black outfit is the same. You can mix it up by layering or adding different shades of black (I know what you're thinking..there's more than one shade of black? Yes, there is).

It Lets You Express Yourself

Never have I ever seen a boring all black outfit. Simple, yes, but never boring. While wearing colors is always fun (I wouldn't know, I stick to my various shades of black), it limits you. The color of your top determines the color of your necklace or your lip color or handbag. It limits how much of your personality can show. With black, you set the stage. Here is where you master the art of 'color popping.' I think of an all black outfit as a canvas that's ready for you to paint. By that, I mean you have nothing in your outfit to distract or limit you. Here is where you get to express yourself with that bold and daring lip color or crazy, funky necklace. If you feel like taking a risk, mix up the textures. It's hard to do with colorful clothing because you don't want to look over-the-top, but with black, it's easier to pull off.

So if you didn't get anything from that, just remember this...

And with that being said...

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
