I cannot count the number of times that I've been asked why I watch this incredibly addicting show with stupid drama, sexist over and undertones, women tearing each other down, and the cheesiest shit you've ever seen in your entire life.

As a proud feminist, I do at times feel very ashamed that I have binge watched 4 or 5 seasons of this show and could name quite a few of the Bachelors, which girl won that season, and extremely personal details about the couple. As a show, it is not the most progressive. The girls are all absolutely beautiful in a very conventional sense, all of their emotions are used for drama and are not viewed as valid, and all of the women are pitted against each other and there are very few positive female friendships that are highlighted. A lot of the women are portrayed as unintelligent, needy and even crazy. We are being entertained by these women fighting over a guy and getting their hearts broken.

So why do we watch?

For a lot of us, it's almost like watching a live, (somewhat) unscripted rom com. The shows is often times epitomises what a lot of women view as the ideal of romantic relationships. These dates are some of the most extravagant things you've ever seen in your entire life. They literally have helicopters come pick these women up from a castle somewhere near LA where they get to live while they remain on the show. We see these people fall in love from week to week and open up about their lives, careers and families almost like a real relationship.

Although it's EXTREMELY sexist on our part, a lot of us watch for the guy. I would be lying if I told you I said I haven't expressed that I would marry the current man on The Bachelor, Ben Higgins.

Look at him. He's beautiful and we see him in a very vulnerable state while he is on this show that is very appealing to many women. We see all of the awesome qualities that the women on the show see in him and we wish it was us on these amazing dates instead of them.

We also watch because the drama is extremely entertaining. It's just like any other reality TV show, something crazy happens on every episode. Whether it's drama during one of the hot tub scenes that occur for too often, or a girl "stealing" the Bachelor while someone else is talking to him, someone always has beef and feels the need to express it, inevitably causing a huge scene.

There's also a large sense of community with Bachelor fans. If you've ever seen the show you've seen The Bachelor viewing parties that people hold with wine and roses on Monday nights. It's a fun time for people to unwind and have fun with their friends over some trashy TV.

Overall, one may argue The Bachelor is an awful show, but we still all love it.

Not ashamed to admit it, I will forever and always be a fan of The Bachelor.
