Everyone experiences stress on a daily basis. How much stress someone experiences depends on life circumstances and all of the activities they're involved in including work and/or school. Experts say that a small amount of stress is actually good for you! But, stress becomes a problem when you lose the ability to function normally on every day. Having too much stress can cause lots of health and social problems! So, here are some ways to handle/manage your stress!
1. Taking Breaks
As simple as this tip is, I know that many people, including myself, don't always do it. People often think of everything they have to get done, whether in a short amount of time or not, and look at it as if it all has to get done perfectly by the end of the day or week. Stop. Step away from the enormous piles of work you have to do for just a few moments. Grab a cup of your favorite calming tea and sit somewhere away from the work where you can't see it. Sit down with that cup of tea and do something you probably haven't done in a long time: Breathe. Relax yourself. Calm down. Realize that everything will be okay and it will work out. Then, proceed to kicking tail on all of your assignments and other work that you were so worried about.
Having said all of that...
2. Actually do your work.
I understand everyone needs a break sometimes. Trust me. I wish I could take a break a lot more than I actually do. But, please don't take a breather or a break and let it last, for example, the rest of the semester. Don't take the break that you need and then decide that you aren't going to do the work anymore. There is still work to be done. Having breaks is essential but so is getting all of your assignments in on time. You could curve some of your stress by starting some assignments the day that they are given to you and work on them a little bit each day. This isn't something a lot of people do but it helps your work load tremendously.
3. Realize that you are human.
No one that is living on this earth or ever will live on this earth will be perfect. No one, including yourself, will ever have all of the right answers. We always think that it would be really nice to know everything. Where we are going, what the right choices to make are, and what it takes to be successful. While the answers to these questions are different for everyone, it's impossible to know all of the answers ahead of time. Slow down. Take a day at a time. The answers will present themselves as life goes on. We change, our interests, change, our majors change, and even our careers change. That's part of life. Don't be afraid of what's to come. Yes, the unknown might be a little scary but it's also kind of fun.
