Theatre has, is, and will always be a huge part of my life. I always find it tragic, however, when I hear people bashing on theatre, or even basking on the arts in general. I think it's time people stopped taking theatre for granted, and start appreciating it for the blessing that it is.
Theatre involves so many skills, so many emotions, and so much time to out together a character or production that makes an audience feel something. Actors in theatre have to make sense of words and put it with emotions, voices, and characteristics to make their character come to life and give the play some substance. Theatre is taking the most purest, rawest, and simplistic emotions and turning them into a show that make people relate to a character, cry when the character cries, celebrate when the character celebrates, and make the audience member feel what the character is going though. Actors pour so much time, energy, thoughts, and practice into making their performance one that will impact each and every audience member through dialogue, actions, and facial expressions. As theatre nerds, we get excited when we hear of or see an audience member being moved by the performance, and being able to see all of our hard work and practice makes it all worth it when we take our final bow before curtain and hear the thunderous applause from the audience giving us the satisfaction of closing an incredible show.
Being able to get on stage in front of crowds of people and perform a play is one of the most exciting and invigorating things a person can do. Actors practice just as much as an athlete would for a game, and actors pour just as much effort into their shows as any other group or cub would pour into their events. Theatre is so underrated, and I think it's time to start recognizing theatre for what it truly is: art.
