Okay, so UNPOPULAR opinion alert: I refuse to agree that episodes 1-3 of Star Wars are inferior to the original trilogy. It's probably because as a 19-year-old, I grew up with the prequels just as much as I grew up with the originals. When I watched Star Wars with my family, all 6 (now 7) episodes flowed smoothly, and it never occurred to me that there was anyone who believed that all the movies weren't perfect. It wasn't until recently when I learned that the general consensus among other Star Wars nerds is that the prequels suck. But even after watching all 6 movies over and over again, I still refuse to agree. I think that people who say that are just a little pretentious and wrong in many ways. So here I am, defending my unpopular opinion on why the prequels are just not as bad as people say.
1. Pod Racing is cool AF
If you disagree you can literally fight me. Cause if you don't think pod racing is cool you're just wrong. sorry. Also, little Ani is just so cute driving.
2. Ewan Mcgregor
I literally live for Ewan Mcgregor as Obi-Wan. He is a fantastic actor and plays his character perfectly in my mind. He triumphs over the questionably written dialogue and performs excellently.
3. The Acting
The biggest complaint about the prequels is the horrible acting that comes, predominantly from Hayden Christensen. But I'm sorry, I really don't think its THAT BAD and ya'll are overreacting. I think the real problem with the movies is how awkward some of the dialogue is, which must have been hard for the actors to overcome. Plus when you compare these three movies to the first three, I really don't see much of a difference in the acting. SUE ME, but some of Luke's dialogue from the 70's is JUST as bad as Anakin's horrible line about sand.
4. The Graphics
I don't think I really need to explain this one. Of course, the original graphics were amazing at the time they were made, but now that it's 2016 it is so much easier to watch the new material. ALSO the fight scenes are literally LEGIT and SOOO much better than the ones from the originals. The lightsabers are awesome and so are the battles, and they are undoubtfully superior to the originals.
5. Episode III
No one will ever be able to convince me that episode III is anything but perfect. I remember crying in my room for hours after watching it for the first time. And I honestly believe it did a perfect job of transitioning audiences into the original story line and connecting many details.
6. The Plot
Without the prequels, we wouldn't know what the Star Wars universe was like before everything completely fell apart. We wouldn't really know what the Jedi were like. The originals were great, but they were all about putting back together a society that no one really understood. In the prequels ,we get to see the decline of the republic and all our favorite characters (Obi-Wan, Yoda, Etc.) in their prime. Also, as a side note, I actually like the introduction of the "midi chlorine" explanation for the Jedi.
7. Anakin and Padme
Anakin and Padme, or Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman make up the most beautiful on-screen couple EVER. It doesn't even matter what words come out of their mouths, they are still beautiful and perfect. Padme became my favorite female character, and my heart literally broke into a million pieces because of this at the end of episode III.
8. They are very similar to the originals
The way Star Wars operates, is in trilogies. Because of this, the prequels mimicked the originals in many ways, and you bet the sequels will too. So, if you think the prequels are bad, then you're basically insulting the original three as well. Without one, there is not another. So stop hatin'.
9. They Led to the Clone Wars
The Clone Wars TV show is awesome. That is all. Go watch it. It's on Netflix. You're welcome.
10. They Just Aren't That Bad
I honestly don't understand why people are so passionate about the fact that these movies are inferior. No argument I've ever heard about them has ever convinced me that they are bad (except maybe Jar Jar Binks but let's pretend that didn't happen, also he was only really a thing in Ep I) , and I'm not going to pretend to agree so I look more like a true fan. As a true fan, I love every part of the series despite the flaws that are in all 7 of the movies. Because, together they tell the most perfect story and one that has influenced my life since childhood.
In conclusion, #sorrynotsorry #fightme
