Why The Presidential Campaigns Are just One Big Migraine

Why this generation needs to take a step back before voting.

Why The Presidential Campaigns Are just One Big Migraine

Who else is intriguingly entertained yet sick to death with hearing about the presidential candidates? Obviously, we have no choice, as their campaigns are relevant to our future. However, this election is causing more stress than having triplets. But it’s exactly the type of hype that keeps us involved. In this generation, everyone prides themselves on what they consider their scholarly opinions. As someone who generally steers clear from controversial topics, I decided to join the hype to explain why this future election is just one huge headache.

Since everyone else always has something to say to stir the pot, I may also throw in my two cents as well. It’s not even the fact that we have some less than satisfactory candidates running, but more so their overly motivated supporters. It seems as though this election in particular among recent years, has caused more of an uproar than usual. You can’t switch on the news, read a paper (even gossip magazines!) or scroll through your newsfeed without seeing the familiar faces of our potential future presidents. Their attempts at doing or saying anything to get a vote is no less than childish. Yet behind the popular candidates fueling the fire, are the followers.

Now, as I mentioned before, I am not actively involved in politics. Yet, I find it humorous that most of the Millennial generation are so opinionated when they too, are typically uninterested in or possess no prior knowledge of politics. Not to be hypocritical, but I won't be sharing my views so heavily if I am completely unaware. Social media seems to play a relevant role in what dictates our decisions. I can’t take our presidential options seriously when they are described as “a crazy old man wizard, a wealthy hair piece, and a bullsh**ter.” This doesn’t say much about our selections. And no, before anyone asks, I will not be trying to persuade anyone with my thoughts on who should be president in the future.

The extreme sensitivity this country has developed is immature. It’s actually comical how easily upset we get when others prove us wrong with higher intelligence and disagree with us. What good is freedom of speech when everyone gets offended by the slightest controversial comment? Ironically, I am almost positive this article alone will be disliked by some if they are stubborn enough to overlook the humor. There’s no escaping the campaign coverage as we move closer towards the elections. And while it’s important to follow as it will soon impact our lives, let’s try not to be so sensitive and close minded. I totally respect other’s viewpoints and opinions, just not when they are shoved down my throat with derogatory memes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
