With recruitment season in full effect, it's officially time to get all "GO GREEK" at every girl on campus. Everyone is trying to convince high school classmates, family friends, and second cousins to rush, and we've all heard the same "it's just not for me."
This is for the girls that don't like pink, for the girls that don't like glitter, and for the girls that don't like girls. Go Greek.
I will admit that I wasn't big on the whole idea before I got to college. I didn't think I'd like Greek girls and I really didn't think they'd like me. I wasn't terribly good at crafting, I despised the color pink, and I thought the sorority squat looked awkward and uncomfortable.
I had all the cliché, preconceived ideas of what a sorority was. I was so wrong. Somehow at the end of the day, I got convinced to go through recruitment. I felt pretty out of place at first, it seemed like all the other girls already had friends where I certainly didn't and don't even get me started on the whole dress "informal" thing, because I showed up in a sports bra, tee, and freshly showered hair tossed up in a bun.
I was anything but your typical sorority girl. But despite my awkwardness during recruitment and still, I found my perfect home and haven't had a regret since.
I've come to the conclusion that girl who claims Greek life isn't for her, actually turns out to be the best member. She brings a new perspective, alternative passions, and an authentic love for the organization.
In every sorority there is a perfect place for each of the nay-sayers, the girl who is only friends with guys makes the best Fraternity Relations chair, the captain of the soccer team is the obvious Greek Week chair, the quiet artsy girl makes the best sheet posters known to mankind, so while you think no, we're all thinking yes, yes, yes.
There are a million reasons why you are perfect for the sorority, and a million more why it is perfect for you. The best part about college is the opportunity become the best you, to make the changes you've always wanted to make, and to branch out in ways you never imagined; going Greek is the first step.
You'll have plenty of time to be harassed by all the reasons you should go through recruitment once you get here, but in the mean time, just think about it. Think about this chance you have to start over, to get involved, to grow in all the best ways.
You get to decide who you are going to be, you get to make your own name. And I know you might have a solid handful of reasons not to, but trust me when I say there are so many more reasons why you, the not-so-sorority girl, should go Greek.
