I know many people have their own opinions on this bill but all I'm asking is have an open mind when reading this and actually take in the words I am writing.
I am not transgender myself, but my boyfriend is, so I know a thing or two about the topic. First, everyone is saying that this was passed to protect the kids but did y'all not stop to think about the transgender kids you will be hurting? Or did y'all just conveniently over look them? By passing this bill you are forcing kids who are trans to go into the bathroom that does not align with who they are. Right now my boyfriend is terrified to use the men's restroom. Why? Because he is afraid he will go in there and get beat up or be verbally assaulted. So what does he do? He avoids public restrooms at all costs and when he does have to go he asks me to go with him into the women's restroom (mostly to make sure no one messes with him). How sad is this? My own boyfriend- the bravest and strongest guy I know- is afraid to pee in public. He's not the only one many transgender people are scared to use public restrooms.
Secondly, did you realize that most transgender people who use the restroom that aligns with who they are usually don't start to use it until they are well into their transition. For example, men like Shawn Stinson,
Aydian Dowling
And Jamie Raines
Now have to use he women's restroom due to North Carolina's bathroom bill. Now if you have a daughter don't you think seeing men like these in the restroom with them would be kind of confusing? I mean if it were me, I'd be a little confused as to why they were in the women's room; no offense to them but they just don't belong in the women's room.
With this bill women like Laverne Cox
Jen Richards
And Jazz Jennings
These women would have to use the men's room. Do they look like they belong in the men's room?
With this bill all I'm hearing is that it was passed to "protect the children", but I'm sorr,y I don't see how making these people and so many others like them use the restrooms that align with the gender that was assigned to them at birth protects said children. In fact I feel like the opposite will happen. Kids are going to be confused as ever because now you have transmen using the women's room and transwomen using the mens room.
People are also saying that this bill is going to somehow stop perverts from going into the women's restrooms and spying on little girls. I feel real safe now because we have a law stopping them but I have one question when has a law ever stopped people who break laws like, I don't know, child pornographers, rapists, murderers. All these things are illegal yet everyday, things like these happen. Even though there are laws against these kind of things. So how does this bathroom law help when the people you are talking about protecting your kids from are willing to break the law regardless?
Everyone has the right to freedom of speech even if that speech is hateful but there's a problem when that hatred is turned into a law. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's called discrimination. The definition of discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex. Hmm "sex" or also known as gender, the North Carolina bill is discriminatory against transgender people and that's all there is to it.
