The holidays are a great time with tons of fun and lots of food. Each holiday has its own special feeling that just makes everyone happy. The big holidays are obviously very important yet so are the smaller ones. The holiday that I think gets overshadowed the most is Thanksgiving. Poor Thanksgiving—people always think that Thanksgiving isn't as fun or as cool as the other holidays, which I don't think is true. Thanksgiving is supposed to be about being with family and enjoying a nice meal with forgiveness (and watching football of course), yet it doesn't get half the hype of Halloween and gets 10 times less hype than Christmas. There are so many good things about Thanksgiving like...
The Turkey
One of the best parts of Thanksgiving is the food. It's not Thanksgiving without the turkey. You need all of the components of a true Thanksgiving dinner: the stuffing, the gravy, green bean casserole, and of course. the pumpkin pie. With all of these, you will feel so stuffed that you can't move, and all you want to do is go take a nap. Well, the turkey will do that to you, that's why we love it so much.
The Family
I know that you see your family all the time, and it's not always fun but this time it is! Holidays are different, you feel better when you are with good people and good food. Family is where you are meant to be on a holiday and Thanksgiving is no different. It is one of the biggest holidays for family time. Who doesn't enjoy a really nice belly laugh and a ton of food with the people you know so well?
The Atmosphere
Atmosphere and family are very closely related. Your family creates the atmosphere you are surrounded by. The food, the decorations, the people—they all help make that warm fuzzy feeling you get inside. This is a day to give thanks, to remember what happened on that day to get us where we are now, yet people somehow forget that and move on. The atmosphere on Thanksgiving is something that the other holidays don't have, its unique. Yes, they all make us feel different and special but there's just something about Thanksgiving that brings us all together.
The Parade, Duh!
There are many different parades on Thanksgiving Day, and I love them all, but the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade is the biggest and most well-known. Seeing all the floats and the people can make even the most sour person happy. Thanksgiving is a precursor to Christmas which leads us into the new year, which to me isn't something that should be ignored.
Now that Thanksgiving is well on its way, I think its time that people see it before running right to Christmas. I love Christmas as much as the next guy, but going straight from Halloween to Christmas isn't fair. Don't sweep Thanksgiving under the rug, give it a chance, because it is great. Go and have fun with your family on a real holiday, and don't forget to remember that Thanksgiving is just as big of a holiday as any other.
