Why Taylor Swift Is Anything But Wrong

We’ve all been waiting for Taylor Swift to slip up, but just because she hasn’t over the last 10 years of her career.

In the midst of drama caused by a Snapchat video posted by Kim Kardashian, Swift is faced with what some are considering her biggest backlash yet.

What You Need To Know:

2009 – Taylor Swift wins Female Video of the Year for “You Belong With Me” and is interrupted by Kanye West.

2010 – Taylor Swift releases her song “Innocent” on her album Speak Now, where she forgives West for the incident.

2015 – Kanye West and Taylor Swift take photos together at the Grammy’s. He sends her flowers and the two meet for lunch.

2016 -Kanye West releases his song “Famous” where he raps, “I think me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous.”

- Taylor Swift wins a Grammy for Album of the Year and alludes to the song in her acceptance speech by saying that “there are going to be people along the way who try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.”

- Kim Kardashian claims that Swift knew all of the lyrics to the song.

- Taylor Swift’s publicist releases a statement saying that that Taylor and Kanye did speak on the phone. Taylor Swift never denied that the phone call took place. Kanye West never said he was going to use the term “that bitch” to reference her.

- Kim Kardashian posts a Snapchat video of the recorded phone call where Taylor Swift agrees to the line “I Think me and Taylor might still have sex.”

- Taylor Swift posts message on her social media to explain that she was never told about that particular line where she is referred to as “that bitch.”

Without knowing the facts, it’s easy to think that Taylor Swift lied about everything. It’s easy to point the finger at Taylor Swift because the popular opinion is that she denied that the phone call ever took place. She never denied that. In fact, Swift’s publicist revealed that Taylor was never made aware of the “that bitch” lyric. Kanye and Kim might be the popular winner, but Taylor Swift is the actual winner.

The term “bitch” is not out of the ordinary for Swift and there are certainly worse words to be called, which she has been. When Kanye referred to as “that bitch” it changed the song’s meaning for her. It went from, “Taylor and I are cool now! Haha we might still have sex… Just kidding!” to “Taylor and I will have sex because I made her famous. I get to now claim my prize because I made Taylor Swift who she is and I basically own her.”

It turns into a bit more of an offensive statement.

We all ran from the woodworks to wave our feminist flags when Taylor Swift released “Bad Blood’ and we thought it was the cruelest thing she’s ever done. How could she write about Katy Perry like that and include her friends in her music video?

The lyrics are vague enough that they can relate to a friendship, a romantic relationship or family member. The song is about feeling betrayed by someone who you once thought you could trust. Nothing less and nothing more.

It’s almost comical, but much sadder that when Kim Kardashian posts a choppy Snapchat video to make Taylor Swift look bad we can all celebrate the takedown of another woman. When “Famous” was first released and you first heard the Taylor dig, did you just let it go or did you go and tell five other people to listen to the song?

Let’s be real: We’ve all been waiting for Taylor Swift to slip up just because she hasn’t over the last 10 years of her career.

If you’ve hated Taylor Swift since she first came around, you’ll use this to hate her even more. If you’ve loved Taylor Swift since she first came around, you’ll continue to love her regardless of how the media or anyone else tries to depict her.

Just remember that you cannot approve a song that you’ve never heard. Remember how it feels at any age when someone speaks negatively about you. Remember how you react. Remember what it feels like when you’re hurt by those words. Remember what it feels like when people are glad that you’re hurt. Most importantly, remember what it feels like when you tell someone how you’re feeling and they tell you to get over it because it’s no big deal.

Go ahead and call her “snake” and “slut.” You’re always going to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
