Many people have things that mean something to them. It could be a souvenir, something a family member gave them, or even a family pet. They like to show them off or even keep that certain thing for private reasons. The smallest thing can mean something big to a person. Most young people get a tattoo to show what something means to them and express themselves. Even older people get tattoos because they want to be spontaneous and express themselves as well. Getting a tattoo can even help you cope with the passing of an important person to you by getting a tattoo in their memory.
The process of getting a tattoo is not as easy as some people would think. A tattoo is being put on your body forever, so it's going to take some time to figure out what you want. You take the time to search online for the right tattoo or you even have someone sketch it out for you. You want your idea to come alive and show what it means to you. Once you find the exact tattoo you want, you go to a tattoo shop to get it done.
The whole experience of getting that special tattoo can mean something. Most tattoo artist ask why someone is getting the tattoo they are getting which can have a whole backstory to it.
If you are a first time "tattooee," then you might be a little nervous because you don't know how it is going to feel. As soon as you feel the needle go into your skin, you might regret the decision you made. But after a while you get used to it and realize it will be over sooner than you think. Getting a meaningful tattoo is worth the pain because you will have it with you permanently. It will also get people to ask why you got that certain tattoo and you will have a story to tell them.
Some people do not like tattoos because they are marking up a person's body and they judge people with tattoos. There are people who just get random tattoos that don't mean anything, but that person still should not be judged. If they knew the true meaning behind a tattoo, they might have a second thought on their opinion. They might also reconsider and get one themselves....or most likely they won't. That's okay, too.
As a person with three tattoos myself, I feel like meaningful tattoos show who you are and what is important to you. Each tattoo that I have is what I believe in and what is important in my life. Instead of telling someone those things, they can see by looking at my tattoos. So people who have tattoos should not be ashamed of a tattoo if there is a true meaning behind it. Embrace the tattoos that you do have and the ones that are to come in the future. Every day there is a new story to tell.
