Unless you have been living under a rock for the past week you have probably heard about the launch of Starbucks' new drink, the Unicorn Frappuccino. The release of this limited edition drink has caused Starbucks lines to almost double in size, baristas cry, and has taken over the internet. People can't get enough of it!
However, as a Starbucks barista myself, I have to say that I am disgusted by the Unicorn Frappuccino. While I do admit that when I first heard about it I was initially very excited about it because I love to try out new recipes and it looked so visually appealing but that excitement quickly went away after I made one..... and then took a sip to try it...... and then lived through the havoc of the launch. For those of you reading this that haven't tried it, let me be the one to tell you that you aren't missing out on anything. The drink is absolutely terrible and I have listed below 10 further reasons why this drink isn't worth the hype:
1. The drink contains absolutely no coffee.
2. They don't even taste good... have you tried the blue "unicorn dust"?????
3. THE INGREDIENTS USED TO MAKE THE STUPID DRINK STAIN:
4. Compared to all the rest of the drinks on the menu, the Unicorn Frappuccino is very time consuming to make.
It requires a lot of steps and even a little skill in order to make one worthy of being featured on Instagram (which is basically the only reason why people are ordering them and why baristas hate making them).
5. WHEN CUSTOMERS COME IN AND ORDER THE UNICORN FRAPPUCCINO THEY AREN'T JUST ORDERING ONE! CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN ORDERING MULTIPULE AT A TIME!!!!
6. PEOPLE WILL NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT THEM!
I can't remember the last conversation I had where the Unicorn Frappuccino wasn't being brought up.
7. I have personally witnessed customers snapping a picture of the drink to upload onto their social media accounts AND THEN THROWING IT AWAY!
DO ANY OF YOU KNOW HOW MUCH TIME/EFFORT/LOVE BARISTAS USE WHEN CRAFTING A DRINK TO BE SENT OUT TO THE CUSTOMERS??????? #rip.
8. They contain a disgusting amount of sugar..... the grande size has more than double the daily recommended amount of sugar.
| Serving Size | Calories | Sugars | Fat | Carbs | Protein |
| Tall (with whip) | 280 | 39 | 11 | 42 | 4 |
| Grande (with whip) | 410 | 59 | 16 | 62 | 5 |
| Venti (with whip) | 500 | 76 | 18 | 79 | 7 |
9. Again they really don't taste good.
10. They are extremely overpriced and not worth the money Starbucks is charging to buy them (specific price varies by state and whether or not store is licensed or corporate).
At least the Unicorn Frappuccino is only going to be on the menu for a few days...........
