Now that I have a full year of college under my belt, I am more than ready to take on Sophomore year with a strong heart and head. Freshman year was full of new experiences and trying to figure out how to navigate life on my own. I am proud to say I made very good decisions on my own, but some bad ones came along with them. Everyone has their fare share of low points during every year but last year was fun and I am so ready to make sophomore year even better.
I now know what it means to study.
In high school I rarely cracked open a textbook, let alone stay in the library until midnight. After many sleepless nights I learned the best study habits for myself. Although I will spend most of my time avoiding work, I will get it done.
I know where everything is.
Cortland isn't the biggest campus, but sometimes it felt like it. It took me a while to figure out the shortcuts and my favorite places to be. But now I know exactly where I want to be.
I won't be living with a stranger.
Having a good roommate can make or break your college experience and I learned this the hard way.
I get to live with my best friends in the same building.
I can't complain about living in the dorms again this year, (mostly, because I am required too). But I can't wait to live with my best friends so close to me. Having your best friend as your roommate and all your other friends so close in the same building makes everything easier. During mid- life crises and when you need to borrow someoneelses closet your second family will be right there for you.
I know what I need.
Yes, you need textbooks and highlighters, but I am talking about personal needs. Sometimes you need to be lazy and stay in bed all day. Sometimes you need to just take a break from your crazy schedule; relax and take time for yourself.
Sophomore year is a whole new semester and it will come with many new experiences but I can't help but be excited for all the great unknown things that can happen in those 9 months. I just hope it doesn't breeze by as fast as freshman year.
