Going into recruitment, I expected a ton to come out of it, just like anyone else. I expected to meet people, to find my best friends, to have fun, and to represent an amazing organization. The thought of being a part of something important, and having something to do ALL the time attracted me so much. When I learned about greek life at Michigan State University, I knew immediately that it was for me, but that is not the case for anyone.
If you are in the position of deciding whether or not to sign up for recruitment, absolutely do it. Just because you choose to rush, does NOT mean that you are forced to join a sorority. People describe rush week as the worst week of their lives and insanely exhausting, and it is all of that, but so much more. The exhausting hours that you spend waiting on the lawns of various houses may be the place where you meet your best friends, because that was the case for me. Once you go through recruitment, all doubts of not wanting to be in a sorority will completely vanish from your mind.
The process of finding the perfect house for you and meeting everyone in it may bring a few doubtful thoughts to mind, but do not let that scare you away. Being in a sorority has so many benefits that I can only begin to explain. You will meet an absurd amount of people, which is extremely helpful when you go to a school as big as Michigan State University, the school will feel a lot more like home. You will have something to do ALL of the time, gaining over one-hundred new sisters is something that will keep you from being bored for as long as you can imagine.
The amazing experiences that come along with being in a sorority can only be explained from being in one. Whether you are completely outgoing like myself, or extremely introverted and scared to spark up a conversation - definitely sign up for recruitment. It is scary, it is a lot of things, but for almost everyone; it is the end of your comfort zone. Doing something that is out of your comfort makes you find out who you really are, and that is the point of college, right? Take this step and try to find out if it is meant for you, whether it is or not, you won't regret it.
