You, yeah you, the one who is actually your biggest hater, and therefore your worst enemy. Listen up, you need to back off, and stop being so hard on yourself. It is sad, but almost everyone I know puts more pressure on themselves than necessary. Of course it is good to have a conscience and to want to succeed, but when does caring become too much?
College years are known as being such fun, good years, but people usually forget to address how hard this time in your life can be. You are just figuring out who you are, on your own, away from the nest. That can lead to a lot of pressure, because, of course, you want to prove yourself by rocking your new independence. But it is important to remember that it is just about impossible to be perfect at this time in your life and not make mistakes—this is the number one time for it, actually!
These are the ultimate growing years. Mistakes WILL be made, because it is inevitable. Mistakes might even be made twice and start to seem purposeful, but you are growing, and you are learning. You have to give yourself some leeway. So stop beating yourself up. This is a time in your life where you are going to learn more than you ever will about who you are and who you want to be. If you beat yourself up, you won't be able to properly learn and grow, you will just set yourself up for a negative cycle of dwelling.
Free yourself from the incredible burden of attempting to be perfect and getting everything right. This is your first time being on your own, and usually these things involve trial and error, and more error, before they are figured out. So let go of the losses in life, and embrace your successes. Most importantly, love yourself, and back off of your own back, if that makes any sense.
