As we all know, college can be a lonely place. My college has a little over 27,000 students and it's easy to get lost in the crowd. But having an incredible roommate can completely change that.
At some point or another, every college student will most likely experience the opportunity to share a room with someone, thus having a roommate. Having a roommate, in my opinion, has provided me with some of my richest and sweetest college memories so far, and I personally think of my roommate as my soulmate. Here's why:
Your roommate knows the real you.
Your roomie sees you on your happy-go-lucky days, your "I'm-PMSing-get-me-a-heating-pad-ASAP" days, your days when nothing can go right and your days when you feel on top of the world. She is an unconditional friend who loves you simply because she shares a room with you. She is someone to cry with, to laugh with, to order a large pizza at midnight with and someone who doesn't judge you for any of the crazy mess that your life is. That is something special, and I think it's soulmate status.
Your roommate shares everything with you.
And when I say everything, I mean every single thing. From nail clippers to clothes, hairspray to pieces of gum, a bathroom and sometimes a bed (everyone snuggles with their roommate at times) sharing is a daily part of sharing a room with someone. And not only do you share things with your roommate, you also share your life. You learn very quickly that having a roommate includes sharing the intimate details of your life with another person. My roommate knows me just as well as I know myself, further making her my soulmate. We share everything, and it's great.
Your roommate gets you.
Because we live together and do life together, my roommate understand me. She gets how I tick. She realizes when I'm hurting and respects that. She knows what to say to make me feel better, and she never ignores me when I look like I've had a rough day. We are wired the same way, and it is so comforting to know there is someone out there in this crazy world who actually understands me.
My roommate is the greatest. She is, in a way, my soulmate, and I am forever grateful to share my life with someone as incredible as her. I am lucky to be able to have pillow talk with her every night, to talk more than we study (sorry mom), to share my life with someone who makes me a better person each and every day and for bumping into each other as we both try to hog the bathroom mirror. Our room may be the loudest in the whole, giant mansion of a sorority house, but I think it just proves we are that much more compatible with each other. And although we may not share a room forever, I know she will be in my life forever, even after our college days have turned into memories.
