We all grow sick and tired of some hobbies now and again. The reason for this can be a lack of interest from peers or an over saturation of that hobby. Some hobbies are cheap and are easy to get back into, but this is just not the case with TCGs. Now for those of you who not know, TCG stands for trading card games. Throughout the entire history of the TCG, it has never had the pleasure of being an affordable hobby. It is essentially a pay to win world.
The biggest reason for playing TCGs being so expensive is due to new expansions. With the release of a new expansion, there are new options that players can utilize in their decks and as a result, they need to spend more money to get these new options. There is no way to solve this issue because without new expansions, the game will become stalled and no one will want to pick it up. However, there is an easy fix to this problem.
The reason that most cards have such a heavy cost is the secondary market. This is essentially the practice of players and stores selling cards for whatever they deem them worthy. In order to get through the burden of the secondary market, it is necessary to become a part of the secondary market so you have stock to match the demands of the players and get what you need at an affordable rate. However, this is not the issue at hand, the big picture is why this should deter you from quitting a TCG after you have already started one.
A perfect example of why you shouldn't quit is my current predicament with Magic: The Gathering. After being away from the game from two years, it seems almost impossible feeling comfortable to come back into the game. So much can change in the course of these two years and the secondary market has taken a completely different turn from back then. It seemed so much easier to get cards back then and now it just seems like a hassle.
With more actual locations carrying less and less stock, it is necessary to turn to online stores in order to fulfill your needs and that might not cut it like it used to. Sites like TCGPlayer have various different sellers all competing for business by selling their cards at whatever price they want, but they might not have the right quantity that you need, so you end up having to order from various different stores to get what you want and the overall shipping price becomes unreasonable. By sticking to a TC, it is possible to avoid this issue because your collection will increase gradually overtime and you won't need to worry as much when new expansions come out and spending a lot of money because you can work around it, So, my advice is if you are thinking of quitting a TCG or even taking a break, if you have a feeling you might come back to it, then don't stop.
