Coming into college, not many people from my high school were coming. Yes, my best friend was coming to the same place but both of us were worried about not remaining friends so we decided to save our friendship and not room together. After all of this was decided, that meant I had to do potluck. Of course, every girl has seen "The Roommate," so my worst fear was getting someone that was as crazy as Leighton Meester.
I didn't exactly get off to a good start with my roommate. I didn't check my school email for a month, and because of this I saw a random girl from Oklahoma followed me on twitter. I was thoroughly confused but didn't even think once to check out why this girl had followed me. A month later, I finally realized the girl that had followed me, was the girl who was going to be my unknown roommate. Little did I know that this girl would become not only one of my best friends, but like a sister to me.
We got along instantly; within the first day of meeting each other we were already finishing each others sentences. That was just the start of everything. I thought that It would be really awkward being next to a girl who I had just met, especially sleeping in the same room. To my surprise, nothing was ever awkward between us. She's the one person who won't judge me for taking a nap at one or five in the afternoon. Chances are, she'll see me napping and think "wow that looks awesome" then end up taking a nap. Whenever I decide stay in bed all day, only getting up whenever the pizza we ordered was delivered, or we have to use the restroom, I can always count of her doing the same thing. Whatever it is, she's easily become one of my favorite human beings on this planet.
Pot luck doesn't always necessarily have to be such a bad thing. Pot luck is always something that everyone dreads, but it's only sometimes that it doesn't work out. I know of a couple of people that have had roommate problems, but everyone else I know gets along with their roommate just fine with hardly any problems. Your freshman roommate is truly one person you will never forget.
To my freshman roommate, thank you so much for making my year an unforgettable one and one who I wouldn't want to talk to about pointless things about. I wouldn't trade a single moment or want any other person to go through everything with. You'll always have a special place in my heart.
