Why Police Officers Are Good People

They aren't as horrible as you think.

As a kid, I was always taught “The police are there to help you and they keep us safe.” Now, no one believes that anymore and you only hear about how the police are only causing problems. How is it possible that in less than 20 years we go from praising police officers to being afraid of them? The answer is simple; the war on police has made us loose our respect for everything the police do for us. Between all of the riots that police have had stop, no one thinks that they’re protecting us, but that they are against us. Let’s remember everything the police men and women do for us every day of our lives.

They protect our schools

When you hear the word “school shooting,” you think about the children involved and how crazy the shooter is. You pray for the victims’ families or the community, but have you ever sat there and thought about the police helping the teachers calm down the kids, making sure everyone is safe and investigating to find out why it happened? The police work to make sure that it doesn’t happen again.

They help with car crash victims

Who do you call when you get into a car accident? The police. They come not only to take care of business and the police report, but they also calm you down and help you as much as they can. The police makes sure you understand everything that happens with court and try to make your life easier.

They put their lives on the line

When the police get a call, depending on the severity, it could be their last day. They can save someone else’s life, but loose theirs. Ever think about how their family feels? Their kids are proud of their mom or dad, but also know that every time he gets a call he might not come back. Their spouse loses their best friend and biggest supporter. They stay up at night, wondering if their spouse is okay. Their parents worry if the last time they saw them is truly the last time. Everyone worries about the victim’s family, but who thinks about the officer's family.

They enforce the law

Rules were set in place for a reason and someone needs to enforce them. The police might seem mean and sticks in the mud but someone has to make sure that the rules are followed. Life is just like preschool, you break the rules and the teacher puts you in time out. The police deal with adults that break the rules and put them in the big kid time out, jail.

They care for us

They wouldn’t make the commitment to our country to keep us safe if they didn’t care about us. They want everyone to be safe and happy with their families so they can be safe and happy with theirs. They look out for the better of us but no one thinks of that when they’re trying to stop a riot right? They don’t support the riots that put people in danger so obviously they aren’t looking out for us.

Next time you see a news article about how horrible the police are, sit there and think for a minute. The police love us and look out for us. They do what they can to make our lives easier and safer. Thank your local police officer for keeping you safe next time you see them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
