Why People Don't Dance Anymore

People just do not dance and party like they used to. Going to parties used to be so much fun and people used to spend all day getting ready. I have even noticed a change in party attendance and behavior just within the past four years. My first year of college, everyone partied. Everyone went to all the parties, on and off campus, and everyone danced the night away. Every year the partying seemed to die down for everyone, from freshmen to seniors. By my last year, it was difficult to get people to come to parties, and if they did come, they did not dance. People do not even dance at the bars like they used to. I cannot really tell you the exact reason why people have developed this anti-party, anti-dance mentality, but I have some theories.

1. They are too busy texting, Snapchatting, Tweeting, Instagramming and Facebooking.

2. Today's music is not good for "dancing," it is more for "chilling" or background noise.

3. They do not want to be preyed upon. This goes for both males and females. When people are just dancing in a group with their friends, the creepers will come grab you and try you make you dance with them. So maybe people do not want to deal with dodging creeps anymore.

4. This is the age of the kickback. Parties have transitioned into kickbacks, AKA get-togethers with friends to hangout and listen to music. So, people are not really going dancing at parties as much because they are just hanging out.

5. Netflix. It is addicting and time demanding.

6. I believe that the people who actually want to dance do not because they are too scared since nobody else really is.

7. People fear being put on someone's social media for simply having a good, drunken time. It happens every night.

8. At Greek parties, people get scared to dance because of the pressure of looking bad in front of the chapter members.

9. People do not dress appropriately. Super high heels, brand new sneakers or a short dress are not conducive for dancing all night and letting loose for the night.

10. People are too judgmental of each other.

So basically, everyone needs to stop worrying about everyone else, put the phones down and dance until your feet fall off. I always hear people complain about how no one ever dances and about how parties are not fun anymore, so change it. Get a group of friends and make it cool to go to Briscoe parties and house parties again. It is a great release, and we students need to make sure that we are having just as much fun as we are studying and stressing over things.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
