This year's election is arguably one of the most important elections this country will ever see. It's the election of extremes; people are constantly being swayed from one side to another, picking the candidates that seem to reach their personal moral codes.
However, this factor is what makes this election particularly dangerous. People are constantly being judged just for picking a side, which is something quite terrifying.
Since when are people defined by a name they check off every four years or so?
Since when can people judge my characters based on who I think could possibly run this country with minimal damage to people's rights and safety?
But, let's step back for a second. The reason why asking someone who they're voting for is such an issue is because a person should never be judged by the actions done by another person.
An innocent man or woman should not be called an idiot or an extremist because he or she supports Donald Trump.
A peaceful man or woman should never be called a "granola-crunching hippie" or some kind of coward because they support Bernie Sanders.
Ideas are simply ideas.
People are simply people.
Votes are simply votes. And quite frankly, a person isn't normally judged on whether they prefer apples or oranges in the grocery store. No one is calling me a liberal or a moron for liking oranges better than apples.
So why should someone be able to judge me based on who I may or may not be voting for this November?
Politics really aren't for everyone. Some people are not interested in the flawed system of government and prefer to sit back and decide for themselves. The Constitution has given us all the right to vote, but it does not say anywhere that every person needs to bend over backwards to make sure each person they meet accepts their political views.
To those people who love and appreciate politics, you are more than allowed to say what you feel, but your appreciation for the political system does not make you the eternal judge of a person's competence.
To those of people who do not like politics, you are allowed to be sidelined. You do not have to be pressured into feeling a certain way, or agreeing with a certain candidate's position.
If you believe that Donald Trump will be the best President, then that is entirely your opinion and you are certainly not any less of a human being for thinking that.
If you feel that Hillary Clinton will lead this country to greatness, then you are most definitely allowed to think that without being called "gender obsessed" and "clueless."
So, no one needs to know who I'm voting for because that shouldn't concern anyone.
Sometimes, opinions are a better-kept secret. The world is pretty harsh, and this race is one of the most concerning ones in our history.
When it really comes down to it, and we stop thinking about how everyone is wrong or right, we really are the same. We all want a country that is free, fair, and thriving. We all want happiness, peace, and safety.
In the end, it doesn't matter who does it, it's when.
