With November now in full swing, I’ve seen a lot of hate on the internet criticizing those of us that enjoy celebrating Christmas early now that Halloween is over. I understand where these people are coming from. Yes, Thanksgiving has still yet to happen. Yes, Christmas is not for another month and a half. However, spreading Christmas cheer is not a crime and I think that us Christmas lovers should be free to celebrate early if we want.
Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. There is literal musical evidence of this in Christmas carols so I know I am not the only person who stands by this belief. Why would you not want to drag out the greatest holiday season as much as you can? It’s all about spreading happiness and cheer. During Christmas time, the music is happier, people are kinder and the decorations fill people with cheer. If I could make every day of the year during Christmas time, I would. Starting the celebrations a little early just makes it that much better.
I’m not dissing Thanksgiving, but I feel like it’s not that big of a holiday to hinder us from celebrating Christmas sooner. Thanksgiving is great because you are surrounded by your loved ones and get to eat food, but it is a holiday that really only covers one day. Halloween, Christmas, and Easter each come with their own season. There is no Thanksgiving season. You don’t see people making a big deal about Thanksgiving until the day actually comes. Therefore, it really isn’t a big deal to start the Christmas season before Thanksgiving rolls around. It’s not sweeping this beloved holiday under the rug.
If we don’t begin celebrating Christmas until after Thanksgiving, the Christmas season is way too short. One month is not enough time to spread Christmas cheer. There’s no harm in blasting Christmas music and setting up the tree now so you can enjoy it for more time.
In conclusion, everyone should start celebrating Christmas early. It causes no harm and only makes these last few weeks of the semester a little more fun for everyone. If you disagree, stop being a Scrooge.
