Now that we've entered the month of September, fashion month is now upon us. What is fashion month, you ask? Fashion month is the time in which all designers showcase their lines for the upcoming season. September means that the spring 2017 ready-to-wear lines. But wait... aren't we just starting fall? Yes, we are, but lines come out six months early so that fashionistas and critics alike are able to pick up on the new trends for the coming seasons and our favorite fast fashion brands are able to recreate similar looks for those of us who are on a college budget and can't afford the silk green bomber from Gucci that they've been obsessing over. Maybe that's just me. While fashion month is great, nothing can compare to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York and here's four reasons why:
1. The street style.
We see some the best, and most wearable, street style at New York Fashion Week. Take former Miss Universe, Olivia Culpo, for example. She's showcasing some of the biggest trends of spring 2016 with her bodysuit and suede culottes. New York Fashion Week is still warm enough that we can actually see normal people (i.e. street style stars, bloggers, celebrities, etc.) wearing the upcoming trends instead of just seeing exaggerated versions on the runways.
2. The designers.
I personally love New York Fashion Week for the American designers. Marc Jacobs is my favorite, but we also have other greats showing like Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, Coach 1941, Michael Kors and many, many other brands we've come to know and love. I also believe that New York Fashion Week produces some of the most wearable runway shows because they're designing for the New Yorker, not the Parisian or Milianian woman.
3. It's our first taste of the new season.
New York Fashion Week is the week to kick off fashion month. This means that we get to see the newest trends of the season straight from the Big Apple. New York Fashion Week sets the bar high for the rest of the month and begins our search for our perfect seasonal wardrobe.
4. New York is simply the best.
I personally love New York. It's one of my favorite cities that I've visited, so I always look forward to the New York shows each season. I truly believe that New York has the best runway shows and street style out of every fashion city.
Only a few more days until the start of one of two of the best weeks of the year. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicks off on September 8th, and you better believe that I'll be trying to catch every live show on my computer and poring over vogue.com for each and every look from my favorite designers!
