"Don't feel stupid if you don't like what everyone else pretends to love." -Emma Watson
I thoroughly enjoy watching "The Bachelor" with my friends, "Pretty Little Liars" is practically my religion, and I read "Sabrina The Teenage Witch" comic books up until the day I turned twelve. When everyone started lying about the fact that they still watched Disney Channel, I was that 15-year-old who proudly proclaimed the fact that I had just watched the "Wizards of Waverly Place" movie, and that I loved it.
If you watch, read or enjoy something that differs from what others claim to then there is absolutely no shame in that. Love the things that you love, because there is nothing reprehensible about finding pleasure in something that you personally find fulfilling. I never understood the term "guilty pleasures." The fact that enough people speak about liking something under that term means that there are at least a handful of individuals that love the thing as much as you do. There are plenty of movies and novels that are deemed childish for obvious reasons, but that does not mean that your passions must cease to bring you happiness because someone else views it negatively.
If you secretly love watching "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and someone asks if you've ever seen an episode, even through you suspect you hear a critical shift in their tone of voice, learn the ability to say, "of course!" while accepting the consequences of their reactions. Many individuals are moved by classical music, yet another individual may somehow feel that the lyrics to a Nicki Minaj song are the most inspirational words that they have ever heard.
You have every right to keep the things that you like under wraps, but never feel that displaying a hobby or sitcom makes a piece of your personality embarrassing. The only time when the concept of having a "guilty pleasure" becomes problematic is when somebody feels pressured to stop appreciating a hobby that once made them happy because of their crippling fear that others may perceive them in a negative light.
As stated before, love what makes you passionate with everything that you have. The people that you care about will laugh with you, and not at you. In the end, your silly little obsessions may be what bonds you to someone who shares the exact same "silly" hobby.
