Why My Freshman Year Roommate Is A Blessing

Why My Freshman Year Roommate Is A Blessing
Emily Lattin

Dear Roomie,

It's crazy to think we have really only known each other for a few months, and only been living together for two. It seems like we've been best friends forever. Who would have thought we could pack so many adventures and memories into such a short amount of time?

When we first met in our freshman seminar class, never did I think you would become my best friend. Never did I think that you would become "My Person," the one who I can trust with anything, and the one who would really become my other half.

But then things changed. We both lifted each other out of the darkest of holes, the most challenging times that college could offer. Some may call it a coincidence, but I call it fate. It all lined up too perfectly: we both so desperately needed someone. We were the perfect fit: the same major, sorority sisters, both night owls, and our color schemes even matched!

From there, nothing would ever be the same again. Every night would turn into a story, every day into an adventure. I always dreamed of having a roommate who was my best friend, but I never thought that dream could actually come true.

Yet here we are, nobody I would rather be living my best life with. Nobody who could relate to me as well as you. Nobody who I'd rather spend nearly 24 hours a day with and share such an amazing college experience with.

So thanks for being the one to throw fake snow in the room at 2 a.m., and being the only other person I know who may shower at 3 a.m. Thanks for being someone who can procrastinate as long as I can and be just as much as a drama queen as myself. Thanks for putting up with me at my worst, especially when my worst comes at nearly 3 in the morning. Thanks for blasting "Congratulations" when we need a pick-me-up, for countless Starbucks runs, and for watching Grey's Anatomy on repeat.

Here's to all the Polaroids on the back of our door, the dumb quotes, the notes to the boys of room 302, the 12 days of Christmas gifts, our adorable holiday cards, the countless times we will redo the room, and all the more everlasting adventures.

So many have told me that we are practically attached at the hip and they are always surprised to see us apart. Hearing this always makes me smile. I can't wait to someday have you as my bridesmaid, and to tell my children of all our amazing times together. The stories we create are truly priceless. I have always wanted this person in my life and I am so beyond blessed that you are her. You're the Meredith to my Cristina, the Rachel to my Monica, the Zack to my and the best to my friend.

Girl, just know that no matter what...I'll be there for you, 'cause you're there for me too.

So here's to the next 3.5 years of being roomies and to a lifetime of memories.

Love,

Your Forever Thankful Roomie

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
