Why Music Means So Much To Me

Music is one of the most important things in the world

Why Music Means So Much To Me
Peter Corio

After growing up learning many different instruments like the flute, the guitar and even a little bit of the piano, it is safe to assume music is extremely important to me. Ever since I was a little kid, I was interested in playing music and singing. I listened to music all the time. I could not go to sleep without any of my favorite CDs playing. I brought my iPod everywhere I went. Music is one of those things in life that can change your mood in an instant as it puts thoughts into words lyrically and beautifully. These are a few reasons why music is important to me:

Obviously, there are hundreds of genres of music. Not everyone likes every genre, however, there is a genre of music for almost every type of person. Whether it be blues, jazz, pop, rock, or country, et cetera, there is a genre of music for everyone. Just about anybody can find at least one piece of music they can relate to, and it's one of the most beautiful things about music.

Another amazing aspect of music is that every artist is different. Most artists have their own style and their own way of making music in a way that they love. I have seen over 20 different concerts, and all of them were so different from each other. None of the artists I had seen sounded like another and the atmosphere was always positive, but different. Each artist had their own different way of connecting with the crowd and helping everyone to have a great time.

Music also can affect people's moods. When feeling down and sad, putting on certain music can easily change my mood in the blink of an eye. When my friends and I are driving down to the beach, we put on music that sounds summer-like and happy. It instantly makes us all happy as we scream the lyrics to the songs simultaneously when taking warm, beautiful drive down. Another example is Christmas music, though it isn't my favorite, especially if it's before Thanksgiving, it most certainly does get me into the Christmas spirit.

An amazing thing about music is writing your own. Not everyone is exactly "good" at it, however, it is just nice to get thoughts down on paper in a way where other people can relate and you know you aren't alone. Whether it is writing lyrics, and jotting down chords that express your mood, it's a good feeling to play or sing something that is your own, even if you choose not to share your music.

A lot of music can either directly relate to how you feel, whether it's happy or upset, but music can also be very uplifting no matter what mood you are in. A lot of songs today are about having confidence about the things you do and being confident about who you are.

Most importantly, music makes me feel like I'm not alone, no matter how I'm feeling. If I'm upset, I can put on songs that relate to my situation specifically and have a good cry and feel one hundred percent better afterward. If I'm happy, I can put on songs that make my mood even better and have a great jam session. Music has a song for every mood I could be in, and it reassures me that I am not the only person going through whatever my situation is.

Music is one of those things where it relates to you. Music is a mood changer. Music is there for you sometimes when no one else can understand, and that's important. It's easily one of the most beautiful things in the world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
