"This year has had its handful of excellent movies, and its ending on a very good note as well. If you're looking to plan a trip to the theater anytime soon, I've got a recommendation for you: "Moana." That is, of course, if you haven't yet seen Disney's newest masterpiece. Grab some popcorn and continue reading for several reasons why "Moana" should be what you see next time you're out at the movies.
It's visually stunning.
Naturally, with today's technological capabilities, animation has become increasingly impressive with every new film. "Moana" is a prime example, especially thanks to the setting of the film. The story takes place on the sea and on several islands across the Pacific Ocean, making the movie a perfect mini-getaway to paradise.
The soundtrack is breathtaking.
Comprised of over two hours of music, this movie's soundtrack features several original songs along with a full score (which is available on iTunes). Many of the tracks allude to traditional Pacific Islander cultures within the instrumentation and also the utilization of the Samoan and Tokelauan languages. The vocals in all of the songs are incredibly impressive, and you'll undoubtedly find yourself singing along to the catchy, beautifully inspirational lyrics.
The adventure is epic.
This film is nothing short of intrepid. With the main theme revolving around the idea of leaving home to find oneself and save the world, "Moana" deals boatloads of inspiration and excitement with every new scene. Who wouldn't love to journey across the sea and explore tropical islands?
Love.
Unlike many other movies (Disney ones, especially), "Moana" doesn't follow the typical romantic love story. Instead, the plot focuses on the love of friends, family, and most importantly, the love for yourself. Not to worry; it will leave you with just as many warm fuzzies as the rest of Disney's work.
It's HILARIOUS.
Any scene with Hei Hei (see above) is bound to make you laugh uncontrollably. The entirety of the movie includes plenty of humor that will surely leave you with pains in your stomach.
Insight, culture and history.
Moana offers viewers a look into a South Pacific legend and the culture of Pacific Islanders; in addition, it did very well to avoid whitewashing the characters and storyline. All in all, it was great to see a movie that tried to stay as true as possible to the inspiration behind it, through the music, visuals, and story.
It's super cute.
The cuteness factor is ridiculously high throughout the whole thing. Here's some more proof:
This.
And this.
To see more cuteness overload, in addition to all of the aforementioned qualities, go see "Moana" in theaters before it's too late!
