Why Mizzou Is The Greatest University In The Midwest

College is a magical place where it's socially acceptable to go out seven nights a week and make irresponsible choices without parental supervision. Many people consider it to be a forty thousand dollar bar tab, but its a place to get an education. Hey, we aren't the number one nursing and journalism school in the country for nothing!

Mizzou is different. Mizzou is the definition of a magical place. I posted the article “8 reasons why Mizzou is the greatest,” but I don’t think that justified how much Mizzou rocks. Haters would say that it's just like high school, but it’s only that way if you make it (which I don’t recommend). Haters gonna hate, but I beg to differ.

Mizzou is a fresh start. Yes, it is a small world for the St. Louisians and Kansas City kids because it’s hard to not see someone from your high school or hometown, but that’s the fun of it. You become friends with the people that you have never talked to before but you knew them in high school. Or you finally befriend the girl who made out with your ex-boyfriend three years ago. You laugh at all the school rivalries and the high school drama. It’s a place where you can reinvent yourself.

Mizzou can be perfectly described by Tom Petty. It’s four years to quit worrying about stupid things and be irresponsible. Your parents aren’t watching your every move and calling you because you're past curfew, you're at the bars all night and fropping till you plop down in your bed. You’ll never remember class time or the times you went to Nutritional sciences with Dale Bringham or Classical Mythology, but you’ll remember the time you stayed up all night goofing around with your friends or eating El Rancho after a night at 10 Below.

Mizzou makes you feel like you are at home. Not just living there for a couple months and then going to your real home. Mizzou is home. Some of us never leave. Spending summers here are an opportunity, and you should take it. You spend the days at the Domain or Brookside pools and nights at the endless summer bar, Bengals. There are times where you just want to stay here forever because nothing compares to going out in Como.

Mizzou is about the friendships you make. No one is off limits in terms of friendships. There are no high school cliques where you have your own lunch tables. We laugh at the love/hate relationship with Sig Chi and Beta. Or stuff our faces at Grill Cheeses with the Gphi Bs.There are those friends you meet because she lives across the hall in Lathrop and you have a heart-to-heart with at 2am. There’s that guy you sit next to in Intimate Relations class who you high-fived when the teacher asked the clicker question of how many sexual partners have you had. There’s that random girl from Ohio you danced with at Sigma Chi in the 6-man or the windowsill at Phi Kapp. There’s that girl you talked to in the hour long wok line at Dobbs. Or that guy you walked out of the all girls dorm together after shacking. Yes, these people become your friends for four years, but also a lifetime.

Mizzou is a magical place. Take advantage of it and be irresponsible. Give your clicker to a pledge and go to Big 12 on a Friday afternoon, or any day. Take a personal day or two to get over the "flu." Spend your rent money at Harpos and then sell your textbooks to get that money back. Mizzou is a place that nothing competes with. So live it up.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
