Miley Cyrus has gone through many changes within the past few years, from being Hannah Montana, to twerking, and now to sitting on the beach in Malibu. No matter what anyone says, however, I love the new Miley Cyrus. The reasoning is very simple, quite frankly. When Hannah Montana aired on Disney Channel, I grew up with her. I learned life lessons with her and even followed in her footsteps to become the best person I could be. I learned from Hannah that everyone makes mistakes, that life is what you make it, and to be a "Smiley Miley" myself. I watched the show from beginning to end in hopes of resembling Hannah in one way or another. She was my role model and as a kid and that was huge.
When Miley changed and started acting out, I didn’t know what to say. I was honestly terrified that my role model became a completely different person. Truth be told, it wasn’t the person she became, but the fact that she changed so quickly that scared me. Eventually, I began to enjoy her new self and embrace her songs, her story, and her motivation to be different. Of course, I didn’t completely follow her footsteps the way I did for Hannah Montana, but I became unique. I wanted to be different for once. I used to follow the crowd but the new Miley Cyrus taught me that I don’t have to follow that crowd.
Pretty soon, Miley changed again. She went back to her southern roots and fixed her style of music to a more upbeat and happy tune. At first, I was shocked because I had just gotten used to the “new” Miley and now I had to get used to the “new, new” Miley. Pretty soon, I felt inspired by her new songs. It made me realize that nobody is going to find who they really are the first time around.
Miley came into my life like a wrecking ball and I could never ask for it any other way. There are many (and I mean many) celebrities across the world. They all contribute to society in a way most people can’t. They have a large platform to spread their message across. Miley is not known to have spread the best message in the past, but her new actions have inspired me as an individual. This platform, Odyssey, is my voice and I owe that to Miley -- that I am here today, willing to share my story every single week. This week, my article (and heart) goes out to Miley Cyrus for the impact she made in my life. She has gone through many rough patches and the media hasn't been easy on her, yet his girl is on fire with her charisma and outlook on life. Miley has made an impact on society and on individuals like me, and that will never change.
