Ah, the love story of Marshall and Lily. A relationship like theirs is hard to find today. They are probably the most stable part of How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM). Yes, they had their ups and downs, but they always found themselves back together. Here are 6 reasons why Marshall and Lily are relationship goals.
1. How they met each other.
Marshall and Lily were college students living down the hall from each other. They stuck together throughout college and watched each other grow up. Marshall and Lily say it was love at first sight. Marshall answered his dorm room door to Lily standing there looking for somebody to help her fix her radio. Life was never the same after that. You know this is true love because Marshall loved Lily even with that hair style.
2. Their pet names.
Not an episode goes by where Marshall and Lily are not being cute and calling each other pet names. Some couples cannot pull this off, but Marshall and Lily pull it off in such a way that it is memorable. They have absolutely no shame in their pet name game.
3. Their very healthy sex life.
It is no secret that Marshall and Lily cannot keep their hands off each other. Every episode there is some sort of sexual reference to their bedroom performance. Hey, you can not let the spark die in a relationship! Marshall and Lily can do it anywhere at any time, no problem. Like in the first episode when they consummated their engagement on the kitchen floor.
4."Pause!"
If you are a fan of HIMYM then you know what "pause" means. This is when Marshall and Lily are fighting and they "pause" from their fight to have a serious conversation about something or to even apologize about their fight. They make it okay to fight about things, but this pause method brings them back to reality. Maybe if other couples did this, their relationships would last longer. Who knows? Maybe Marshall and Lily are on to something here.
5. Date nights.
All Marshall and Lily want is another couple to do couple things with (like game nights with Gouda and drinks.) At times they can seem a little desperate for another couple to hang out with, but this is just because they want other people to have a relationship just as awesome as theirs. They just always have so much fun together; if that is not goals then I don't know what is!
6. No matter what, they will always love each other.
Marshall and Lily's love life is as simple as an outdoor ceremony, close friends and an acoustic guitar (Season 2, episode 21 reference.) They make a relationship look fun and easy no matter what obstacles have to be overcome to get there.
