Summer has finally arrived, Memorial Day weekend is just days away, and lake days are the only things I see in my future. Since it is the main thought racing through my brain, I thought it appropriate to list off several reasons why I love packing up and running to the lake.
The Weather
No matter if it is frigid and rainy or scorching hot, the lake seems to accommodate any weather pattern. The cold allows for bonfires with amazing people and staying inside sharing stories over a game of pool. The rain never stopped us from swimming or taking refuge under the dock till it passed. Even when it is unbearably hot, we hop onto the pontoon with the top up letting the breeze cool us off for just a moment. And when the weather is perfect, everything truly feels perfect.
The Attitudes
No one cares when they're at the lake. Negative thoughts are thrown off the dock and are replaced with a more positive and laid-back mindset. The stress of school and work are ripped off of our shoulders, and the only worry in our minds is who is going to have to the leave the water to make dinner. Everyone seems to be in their own little world when we’re at the lake. Even though there’s no way to not interact with people, you aren’t questioned when you need to be alone or take a break from the sun. As long as everyone is happy and healthy, the atmosphere is positively radiant.
The Friendships
It might be because of how much time you’re with your friends up there, but friendships always seem to mend and grow at the lake. You tend to learn a lot about friends at the lake due to the fact you’re with them for several days at a time, morning till night. There’s something about being on the dock in the dead of night that prompts incredible conversations with whomever you’re with. From freaking out to stunning music, to talking about aliens for hours, to listing to your friend talk about their home life, late-night dock talks are moments I’ll treasure forever.
The Memories
Some of my fondest memories have happened at the lake. With the slide getting put on the dock and countless strangers asking if they could go down it, night swimming and regretting it immediately, getting lost on the water for several hours after watching a firework show, and finding a domestic deer on our innumerable golf cart rides dancing through my head, I can only imagine what new memories will come from the lake this summer.
Going to the lake is a vital part of my summers, and I hope that never changes.
