Maybe it's the palm trees. Or the summer humidity that gives my hair instant volume (and tons of frizz). Or maybe it's the slower pace of life that I so very much admire. It's all of these things and more that resonate with me when I think of southern living.
Growing up in Pennsylvania, visiting the south was and still is always a treat to me. I look forward to stepping off the airplane and being kissed by the sunshine. I look forward to the cool, endless summer nights. I look forward to lounging in a bathing suit day in and day out.
From southern hospitality to the generally slower pace of life, a part of my heart definitely belongs to the south. I admire a place where people are kind, genuine and welcoming, and saying hello to strangers on the street isn't uncommon.
Living in the north, it's so easy to get caught up in the everyday hustle and bustle. Things are laid back in the south; people just sort of let life move at its own pace and don't attempt to rush things too much.
Aside from the almost daily summer storms, the sun is almost always shining. The beaches are pristine with their soft sand and clear waters. The tropical flowers are always in bloom.
And of course, I must attribute some of my best moments in the south to Disney World. Regardless of what time of year I visit, who doesn't love a trip to the most magical place on earth?
I'm not exactly one for cold weather (even though I go to school in Scranton), so going to a place where it's summer all the time is honestly like a dream come true for me. No snow boots in the middle of March? I'm there. You mean I can wear shorts every single day? Again, there.
The accents in the south are pretty fun, too. Forget Philadelphia and New Jersey accents. I love having conversations and counting how many times a person says y'all. Ma'am and sir also are widely accepted in the south.
Regardless of the fact that I live in the north, I'll always look forward to visiting the south and everything it has to offer. In a world that is so big, it's comforting to know that home doesn't always have to be just one place.
