A lot of people like to say that smaller schools are better because you receive a more intimate education, and someone that goes to one could probably give you a million reasons why they prefer it. But, in my experience, there is nothing like being home with 30,000 of my closest friends, and here's why.
1. There is so much to see.
Campus is huge! Of course that means that you always have a long walk, but who cares because it is basically sight-seeing. All of that walking also takes care of the Freshman 15 — it's more like the Freshman Five.
2. All of the opportunities.
There are so many professors that could take you under their wing — whether it is with research, assistant teaching or study abroad, opportunities are plentiful. There are so many things to build the resume. When it is time to find a real job, it's known that a fair amount of companies are attracted to job fairs at large schools with big reputations and a large pool of students to choose from.
3. The amazing facilities.
All of the amenities on campus are perfect. Large schools have large gyms with pools and every machine you could ever want. There are multiple dining halls with many different kinds of food. Campus doctors are provided so that you never actually have to be an adult and make a real doctor appointment. All of these places give students a lot of work opportunities on campus, too.
4. So many clubs.
There is an organization for every single thing you could ever want to do. There are academic societies, Greek organizations, sports, intramural sports, a Capella, a club for every religion, Quidditch — everything. Every person can find a perfect niche.
5. Soulmates.
You are likely to find the perfect friends because the statistics are simply on your side. Out of that many people, there are bound to be people that are your
people. There will be someone there with your taste in music, movies, clothes, food and sports. If you don't fit in with one
group, there are plenty more fish in the sea.
6. Avoiding non-soulmates.
When there is someone you don't want to talk to or, God forbid, an ex, you don't necessarily have to be in the same dining hall as them every day because there are more than one. Even if you are in the same class, you probably don't have the same professor, and there are so many different places to study. And if you do end up running into them, there are plenty of other people to hide behind.
7. School spirit.
It is amazing to be a part of something so big. There is nothing quite like being surrounded by 10,000 plus other students and even more alumni, cheering a team on. Football season is anticipated more than Christmas.
My school has 30,000 people, and while it seems like you would always be unimportant in a place that large, it is somewhere that you can find the perfect role for yourself. Opportunities are endless, and it is always an adventure.
