Why I Love Music

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”- Bob Marley

Why I Love Music

Ever since I was a little girl I've had an intense love for music. I used to memorize every word to the rock and roll songs my dad would play at parties and it made me feel famous. Even though I didn't understand the feeling and meaning behind them, I still admired the songs I heard. I eventually expanded my appreciation of good music and learned how each genre was able to positively affect me or fit my mood. I used to think that if you liked a certain type of music it meant you were weird or different, but since then I've learned that all music is beautiful in its own way and can inspire people in means I didn't even know were possible. As a result of my deep-seated infatuation with music I've created a list of five reasons for why I absolutely love it.

It helps me get things done.
Whenever I have something I need to get done fast, I put on music. It distracts me from the outside world so I can focus on the task at hand. It also makes time seem to speed up when I can sing along and focus on the beautiful beats I hear. I'm put into a better mood and am relaxed instead of stressed.

There is a song for every mood you could possibly be in.
Whenever I'm happy, sad, mad, annoyed, or need a pump up I can find the perfect song to fit that need. When I'm sad I need to listen to alternative rock. When I need to get excited for a party I like to listen to hip hop. It all depends on how I feel at the time and how I need to feel.

You can truly understand someone through their music.
You can understand a person's background emotion, and personality all through their music. They express things that they like, experiences they have been through, and more so it's easy to analyze how an artist was feeling when they created their sound. The lyrics they fit together tell their story and place you in their shoes for the length of the song.

It can bring people together.
Music is a wonderful way to bring people together, especially in hard times. For example, "We are the world" is a song released for charity when hardship has occurred somewhere in the world. The last time celebrities came together to perform the song was in 2010 for the earthquake in Haiti that killed 230,000 and injured 300,000. They performed the song to raise money for victims of the tragedy.

It's a good way to channel emotion and creativity.
A lot of the time artists will create their music so they can channel their feelings in a safe and positive way. If the artist was feeling sad or happy at the time they wrote their music, it is evident. Like writing a letter that is never sent to someone, writing a song about a situation and venting that emotion can make a person feel better.

Bob Marley once said, “One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain". This statement could not be any more accurate. Music can soothe your soul and bring you peace, even if the sound is far from peaceful. It makes you feel understood- like someone out there feels the same way you do. It's like a vehicle that can take you places you'd never imagine going. Music gives me peace and helps to liberate my mind.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
