One of the most prevalent battles in the world of music is one between country-lovers and country-haters. There seems to be no in between for either loving it or hating it. It certainly is a genre that causes a stir up of mixed reviews. Although I may go to a "southern" school, I have loved it way before then. So for all of you who hate country music, or will never give it a chance, here's why I really do love country music.
1. The meaningful lyrics.
Although there are many country songs out there that don't have much meaning, anyone who thinks country is just about "tractors" or "drinking beer" hasn't heard the very best of it. Songs like "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw, or "Then" by Brad Paisley will change your mind. There is just something about the serious country songs that have my heart. They tell a story, and have given me some of my favorite quotes to live by.
2. The concert memories.
Between the tailgates, cold drinks, and the energy, there is nothing quite like a country music concert. No matter what artist you see, the vibe at the performance is surreal. Being outside in the summertime, listening to country music live is one of my favorite things. No matter what other concerts I may go to, nothing beats a country concert. Not only is the atmosphere amazing, but the performer never disappoints. After seeing countless different country artists, I have never been let down.
3. Patriotism.
No one can deny the pride that country artists have for their country. Whether they're wearing stars and stripes, or singing about it, it is undeniable. I love the sense of appreciation country music emphasizes for America. There is no other genre of music that shows their dedication and loyalty like country does.
4. The people.
Country music brings together an amazing group of people. There is nothing like a sea of people dressed in cow boy boots and cow boy hats who all share a love for country music. Finding similar people to sing the lyrics along with you is simply the best.
5. The humor.
No other genre of music can make me laugh like country music can. Country artists will have a variety of songs that will make you cry of sadness or laughter. If you ever need a pick me up, there's a country song for it. "Red Solo Cup" by Toby Keith will always be one of my favorites.
6. The passion.
All in all, there is nothing quite like country music. No matter how much backlash it receives, it will always be one of my favorite genres. It has shaped me into a better person, and given me some of the greatest memories. I am so thankful for a style of music that is not afraid to be different.
"So turn it on, turn it up, and sing along. This is real; this is your life in a song. Yeah, this is country music!"
- Brad Paisley
