1. You get work accomplished, or at least pretend to. Okay, so maybe the library on a Friday night is not the prime time to be working on a big assignment or project, but you can catch up on reading assignments, make some flashcards, or just skim over notes from the previous weeks. Just because you are in the library doesn't mean you have to be hardcore studying. Put some music on and take it easy. It's Friday, after all. You should get credit for just being in an academic building.
Side note: The library does in fact close on Friday nights. It's not like I learned this the hard way when I walked all the way to the library my freshman year to see a deserted, locked building...
2. You can wear whatever you want. When is the last time that you got to put on sweatpants and a T-shirt on a weekend night? I'm guessing not very often (which is quite frankly, a shame). Weekend nights are the perfect opportunity to snuggle in at the cafe section and catch up on some missed work. 3. You can pick the level of social you are feeling. The library is the perfect place to decide how social you are feeling. Want to hide away, listen to some music and drink a cup of coffee? Torg bridge or the quiet floors are just for you. Or, are you feelin' the social butterfly in full flight? Grab a huge table or bench to meet up with friends to hang out or maybe even study if you are feeling ambitious. 4. You can bring snacks and coffee. There is no way you can lug a thermos of coffee and chocolate covered pretzels with you when you go out. But at the library, anything is possible! Feel free to stock up, just make sure you have enough room in your backpack for the books. 5. Prime time for people watching. If you don't actually want to be productive, have no fear -- people watching will help you pass the time without realizing. Leave any forms of entertainment at home -- all you need is a central library location, a table full of stressed out students and a good view. 6. Wake up feeling…refreshed? Although a night at the library is not exactly the recipe for a restful night's sleep, it sure beats waking up the next day feeling exhausted and dehydrated from a late night out.
