“OK ladies now lets get in formation” is more than just song lyrics, it is a movement. Beyoncé helped affirm this with her recent album and visual album "LEMONADE".This album has transcended anything she has ever done before and she officially let the world know why being a black woman is something sacred in itself. This album is full of truth, emotion, and raw truth
The 12-track album is a story from start to finish. The visual album gives viewers even more than they imagined. The album starts with a song called "Pray You Catch Me" and ends with the infamous "Formation." However, the meat of the story lies in-between. Songs like "Don’t Play Yourself" and Sorry give us an extremely honest and angry Queen B who discusses the infidelity she experienced within her marriage with rapper Jay-Z.
This album was the most open and honest that fans have ever seen or heard from Beyoncé. Songs like "Daddy Lessons," "Love Drought," "All Night," "Sandcastles" and one of my personal favorites "Freedom" are guaranteed to leave you with goosebumps. The poem included as the narration of the visual album seems to answer every question we had about the elevator situation that occurred in 2014.
The visual album was captivating and spewed with creativity. It gives the black female perspective of what it is like to go through the extreme lows and extreme highs of a relationship. If not the whole album, there is at least one song that everyone can relate too.
Queen B did an amazing job of giving a visual perspective of the different emotions like anger, emptiness and freedom. She mixed old-school southern style with modern edginess and highlighted the true beauty of the black woman. If you haven’t listened yet, do yourself a favor and watch the visual album. It is groundbreaking, inspiring and refreshing. You feel every ounce of emotion that Queen B has put into her work. It truly teaches us that when life hands you lemons you can either be sour or make lemonade.
