I remember when I first got my schedule, I was so annoyed to see that I had 8:30 a.m. classes Every. Single. Day. I am one of those people who could sleep until noon (or later) every day, no matter how early I went to bed. Having to get up in the morning is literally the bane of my existence – each morning is a struggle to get up and get ready for class.
But, after nearly a semester’s worth of getting up at 7am to get ready for class, I found myself registering for classes at 8:30am. Yes – I’ve come to love my morning classes.
I love being the only one awake (my roommates don’t have class until later in the day). The room is silent, except for the quiet hum of the air conditioner, and of course, whatever noise I make trying to get ready. It’s really a good time for me to reflect on things in my life, as well as mentally go over my agenda for the day.
I love watching the sun rise over Plant Hall in the morning. I love sipping my coffee in front of the window, and watching the fog lift, or watching the clouds change from an orange-pink color, to yellow, to white against a brilliant blue sky. This, of course, must be featured on my Snapchat story – a one-second long picture with the time on it.
I love getting my bagel from Einstein’s, which is only lineless at 8:30 a.m. Seriously, as soon as it’s 9am, Einstein’s is an absolute mess. I love strolling across campus when it’s quiet. There’s no one loudly carrying on – everyone respects that everyone else has just gotten up and isn’t in the mood for much interaction.
I love being completely done with my classes by 11:30 a.m. at the latest, and being able to go get sushi from the on-campus grocery store. I love being able to go do my laundry after class and not having to fight someone for a machine. I love being able to sit in bed and watch Netflix without the Wi-Fi cutting in and out (as most of the people on my floor are either still sleeping or in class and aren’t using up the bandwidth on the Wi-Fi).
But, above all, I love being able to come home from class, nap for an hour or two, and still have time for doing homework, spending time with my friends, and getting food on-campus before it closes.
