Why My Kids Have Four Paws

Before you die, make sure you get a dog in your life.

Why My Kids Have Four Paws

They say that a dog is a man's best friend. While that may be true, I think a dog is more so a woman's best friend. They can be a better boyfriend than the one you have and can even be a better child than most in the world. I have a goal in life to be the crazy dog lady version of a crazy cat lady. And yes, dogs are better than cats. No competition.

When you get your first dog, your whole life changes. I had to wait 11 years before I could get my first dog. My parents are allergic to both cats and dogs. Lucky for me, I fell in love with the hypoallergenic breed, the Yorkshire Terrier. The only excuse they had for not getting a dog was that we were living in a rented property.

After moving into our first home, I begged my parents for a dog almost every day. This time, they had no excuse for me not to get one. I had to suffer for 11 years, pretending all my cool robot toy dogs were real dogs. It's pretty depressing, I know.

My parents surprised me when we got my first dog, Max. We showed up to the breeder's house where she revealed a kennel of Yorkies and told me to pick one. I don't know how I didn't cry at that moment because I can cry by just looking at a photo of a Yorkie puppy.

I never knew how happy these little creatures could make me feel. Whenever I'm not feeling the greatest, I just turn to my dogs for relief. They're the best little therapists ever. They can sense when I'm sad and will run up to me with lots of wet kisses and stay with me as a little warmer to make me feel better. You can tell them anything and they'll just sit there and listen to you. No judgement.

Once you get your first dog, you're not going to want to stop. You'll search for dogs all over the internet and visit the humane society just so you can get some new puppy love. I'd have a whole Yorkie clan by now if I could. Sadly, the city only allows you to have two at a time. But there are so many babies that need homes out there and I'm more than willing to take some in!

My dogs are my babies. When people ask if I have kids, it's a tricky situation because I consider them my kids but they're not humans. They're not like the kids screaming at the top of their lungs until they get what they want. They are spoiled but it's in a different way. I just make sure to give them all the food and treats they want.

I couldn't imagine my life without my two little munchkins. When I went on vacation in Spain, there were so many Yorkies. It was like God was making me feel bad for leaving them behind. Of course, I cried when I saw all these Yorkies because that's how attached I am to them. They're my kids. I'm sure any other dog parent would understand me.

If your first pet starts out as a fish, continue to try and work your way up to a dog. Trust me, you won't regret it. I started with fish which grew to tiny frogs that just floated in their habitat and then I had a hermit crab that became my most thrilling pet. Once again, my childhood was pretty depressing.

If you take anything away from this, just remember that dogs are better than cats and you need to get a dog in your life, ASAP. Don't worry about having to explain why you don't have kids yet. Just tell people that you have your fur babies to complete your life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
