Why I Really Joined Odyssey As A Content Creator

During the four years that I spent in high school, I was involved in a number of extra-curricular activities. I loved getting involved and being an active student at my school, which is exactly what I wanted to do in college. Throughout my English classes in school, I always had a passion for creative writing. Sometimes I felt the need to start a blog, but never knew exactly how to go about doing so. Before the start of school, I applied to be a Content Writer for Odyssey platform at VCU, and I am so glad I did. Here's why:

Originally, I joined Odyssey as a Content Writer, because I wanted to be involved on something at campus. I liked the idea of writing for Odyssey because it was not too time consuming, and I could write whenever I had a free chance to do so before the submission deadline. Also, I was very fond of the idea that I could write about practically ANYTHING. Whatever topic interests me or whichever opinion wanted to have on a particular topic. Writing for Odyssey meant that I could be as creative as I wanted to be.

Next, I joined Odyssey because as stated before, I have had a passion for writing for many years now. I enjoy putting my thoughts on paper and for letting other people to read what I have to say. I think that writing allows me to express myself, since sometimes I am shy. I like to be able to be as creative as possible when it comes to writing, which Odyssey has definitely presented me with many opportunities to do so.

Also, Odyssey platform at VCU appeared to be very supportive of one another (which they are). The other writers and myself are a team, and I love the feeling of being a contributor to the platform at VCU. All of the writers are very supportive of each other, the EIC and editing staff are amazing when it comes to giving advice on what to write about, etc. Being a writer for Odyssey means that you never have to feel "out of the loop," because there is someone who is always willing to go above and beyond to help you figure out what to write or how to fix a typo in one of your pieces that was submitted.

There are plenty of other reasons I could list of why I joined Odyssey and my positive experience as being a Content Writer for this platform. I cannot wait to publish more articles and get feedback on my pieces. Thank you to all who take the time to read my pieces, and I encourage students if there is a platform at their school to really consider joining. Odyssey has so much to offer!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
